"Get the number of that starship?"
"It was moving too fast."
"You've probably seen it already though," Jim Kirk tried to cheer up his star gazing boyfriend, Pavel Chekov.
Pavel smiled, "Imagine working on them though," he squeaked. His face lit up as he spoke of how exciting it would be. It was his dream. His passion and for the most part Jim enjoyed hearing about it, and seeing him get so excited.
There was something about the way someone would act when talking about what they are truly passion about. Their eyes. Their smile. Their whole body language.
Pavel is a little ball of excitement most of the time, but when talking about Starfleet he grew into a bigger ball somehow. Jim would probably never tire of seeing him like that.
Pavel adjusted his telescope as Jim let out a sigh he didn't know he was holding. Just 17, Pavel dreamed about joining Starfleet and becoming an Engineer. He had some way to go yet, but he seemed content to just watch the silent star ships go by; tracking their numbers occasionally.
Jim wondered if it was star gazing. Did Pavel really want to get out their amongst the stars. He turned and spied Pavel's huge pile of study books. No, no, it was definitely an appreciation for the ships themselves. And it was a wonderful thing to be a part of. Jim knew he'd join Pavel on his journey and proudly live to see him become Chief Engineer of Starfleet's Flagship.
"Just think. . . Being amongst all those stars," Jim turned his head to see. He knew Pavel's answer. He wanted to be there on the ship, for the ship itself, not to see the stars.
"I don't need to," Pavel smiled, coming up to Jim. "I have the brightest star in front of me," he explained trying to suppress a giggle.
Jim smiled fondly down at Pavel, "No, no," he said, "I do."
Pavel giggled, and moved to kiss Jim tenderly. He didn't notice the star ship creep by in a colourful display of lights. He'd probably already got it's number anyway.
