Personality: The most prominent part that distinguishes Spanner the most from other people is his obsessive love for Japan, and anything Japanese. He is what most people call an 'otaku' - he drinks green tea, he loves kanji, he admires Japanese technology, he even writes his name in kanji (though it doesn’t really make sense, but he tries). Spanner has “a true enthusiasm for machinery,” as quoted from Irie Shouichi, so much that he would dare to go against higher orders and save their enemy, just because he’s interested in the boy’s technique. Spanner probably didn’t think of the consequences when he took Tsuna in after their battle, only wanting to help perfect the boy’s X Burner because it’s just so fascinating to him.
Despite being in the mafia, also a member of the Black Spell, one that relies more on brawns than brains, Spanner dislikes killing with his own hands. He doesn’t have an issue with killing over the monitor (because he operates with his Mosca) but truly, Spanner is not a cold-hearted killer. He also doesn’t display a great show of courage (possibly stemming from the fact that he’s more a mechanic rather than a warrior) when Iris finally found him and Tsuna. Spanner knows his limits, he also knows his opponents’ abilities, and he does not risk himself in a battle that cannot be won (if statistics say so, anyway. Spanner is a big believer in numbers.)

Sample RP Post:
The hot water hissed on the oven and Spanner grabbed the kettle, careful enough so it didn't splash him with boiling water, and poured it into the tea pot. He watched with almost a boyish fascination as the tea leaves twirl with the current, the water staining a pale green. Ceramic warmed against his hand and Spanner breathed in the aroma rising from the tea - so exotic, so oddly soothing. He closed the lid.
Eyes glanced to a side, and Spanner stared at the boy sleeping on his bed. He was tiny - so thin, so fragile, yet his fire was strong enough to destroy Spanner's King Mosca. Just the thought of that sent a spark of thrill down his spine - something ironic. He shouldn't be so excited when he was defeated, when his ultimate creation was defeated, but Spanner was. He couldn't help it. He was already engrossed in finding out the limits of that technique, and perfect it. Granted it would kill him (because he went against orders, and traitors had no other way out than death) but Spanner didn't care. He didn't care at the time.
Maybe he was just that foolish.
He twisted the lollipop and laughed quietly to himself. Perhaps he could find a way out? Perhaps. But not very likely, considering who he was dealing with. Shouichi, after all, was sharper than he was.
