Weekend Update: Whiplash Edition

Oct 18, 2009 02:53

So you know, life is going well, looking forward to the weekend, driving back from downtown with Evan on chestnut Street making a left on to Forest and BAM CRASH AIRBAG OUCH.

So kinda stunned, get out of the car and start looking around... and we didn't hit anyone. And no one hit us. Strange, yes? Some nice people come to push the car (Evan's VW, Esmerelda the Volvo is still safe) and there was this huge fucking water main cap in the middle of the street in the midst of road construction. So the city's contractor excavated to put in new curbs, threw down a little asphalt but never really built it back up again. So, huge eight-inch iron pipe access cap thing caught the car by the crossmember.

So a cop came, and he was really rad about it, totally on our side (but I guess that's kind of obvious, like, as opposed to the pipe's side?) and wrote it all up in a police report. Evan is never one to complain, and despite my repeated interrogations he maintains he's okay. I on the other hand? Well, went home Friday night, took a few tylenol and got drunk. Seemed like a good idea at the time, right? Other than biting my lip a bit I was only slightly sore.

Woke up at 6:20 a.m. fucking achey. Couldn't get back to sleep, tossing and turning, blah blah blah. I got up and noticed some big black bruises on my thigh (sexy!) and my head was killing me. And now before you allege it was from the booze, that rarely happens and is a different headache entirely, plus Evan's house has top-shelf stuff. So went to the walk-in clinic and the receptionist was rather bitchy about taking my insurance, so drove to the ER. Seriously B'ham, your hospital is so hard to find! How many native Bellinghamsters are born en route in passenger seats because of this? They didn't do X-rays but the nice doctor said I had hella whiplash and need to take it easy for a week, and gave me a prescription for some muscle relaxant (sweet) and two massages (even better!). I'm not really the pain pill type so the massages will be nice. This will delay Couch To Five-K a bit, but whatever. I'm fine, just sore, and taking it easy for a week will be kinda nice. And hopefully this lazy contractor the city used will pony up some money in the very near future, and be held liable for Evan's car.

Unfortunately, when the doctor said "whiplash" she made me think of Whip It... oh Devo. You've been stuck in my head all evening. Upside: went to the Swedish pancake breakfast at the Norway Hall and it rocked my world, I'm currently munching on a huge $5 bag of lefse I bought there. Hell ja.
