Report of plagiarism on She-had-a-chance

Dec 03, 2007 19:59

I have been plagiarized by someone called she-had-a-chance.

My original story, "Belle de Jour," posted here at LiveJournal (and a few days later at A Teaspoon and An Open Mind) a year ago:

http://chase820.livejournal.com/172386.html

Also, my author notes on "Belle de Jour," showing the thought and research that went into this:

For further evidence, I can refer you to my beta reader mustangsally78, who read this story in all its many drafts.

The plagiarized version, posted a couple of weeks ago at fanfiction.net:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3897078/1/a_timelords_consort

As you can see, it is nearly a word-for-word rip-off.

She has several other stories posted in the fandom. I didn't read those, so I don't know if they're plagiarized or not. But "A Timelord's Consort" (Jesus, that title makes me wince every time I type it) definitely is.

ETA:

So, I've heard from the idiot fifteen-year-old who stole "Belle de Jour."

I quote her PM in its entirety:

can i just say my friend sent me it as a word doc. and asked me to put
it on,
saying it was her own so please do not blame me, i will take it off as
it is
yours and i will have a serious go at her because it is a disgrace and
inexcusable and has obviously given you a bad impression of me.

i am very sorry for your inconvience

My reply:

Oh, come now. You said in your own author's note that you wrote everything from the dream sequence onwards, and we both know that's not true.

Have the maturity to admit that you did something very wrong, apologize like an adult, and never, EVER do it again. That's the only way you're going to salvage any shred of credibility.

While you're thinking of a proper apology to send to me, you should also be coming up with apologies for the other authors you plagiarized. According to the folks at LiveJournal's stop_plagiarism community, "Belle de Jour" isn't the only story you copied.

It's bad enough to be a thief. Don't be a gutless thief.

I doubt she'll reply, but should she do so I'm just expecting more lame excuses. If only she were experienced with genre television, she'd know that the one-armed man defense never flies.

Then again, if she had any experience, education, or intelligence whatsoever, she wouldn't have pulled this shit. But at least she appears to have taken down all the stolen stories, and in their place left a weepy note about how everybody needs to stop being so mean:

right i have no stories on here. (well as soon as FF.net takes them off)

may i say that quite a few of my stories belonged to my friend who is to embarressed to have her own account, so she sent me documents through email and i posted them. i do not use whofic and only use livejournal AS and online diary. i recently found out she has plagraised the stories. for this i am deeply sorry and i apologise to whoever's story was included. but please there was no need for the response. please understand that i am having problems at the moment, i am deeply down and a very sensitve girl and the comments hurt so much. i was told i 'cant string 2 words together' and 'you are so stupid to spell like this' and you have no idea how much that really hurt me. i tried to take my account off but cannot find how so i will just use it as a way of finding my favourite stories. so please can everyone just leave me alone now and let me do my thing.

P.S wilteredflower was mine and although it wont be often it will be updated, no way in hell am i letting you lot get to me anymore. if you are genuine and wish to read it PM me

I'm sure y'all can just hear my heart breaking for her.
