stolen Sherlock writing by musicaltheatre273

This morning a very kind anon told me that an entry on fanfiction.net was awfully similar to a Sherlock story that I wrote a year ago. I looked, and not only were the themes identical, the user had lifted several of my lines and phrasings verbatim.

Hi! :) I'll be the mod handling this case. I apologize for taking so long to get to the queue and approve this. I will contact the author shortly. :)

After doing some looking through the story, it seems there are substantial differences in the *plot* (in the other fic, Sherlock is still a child even after 19 chapters) although the *wording* of elements of this scene have clearly been appropriated.

Screencaps:

Original story, red box around the relevant copied and remixed section: http://picturepush.com/public/13194292

The copied section highlighted in the other story: http://picturepush.com/public/13194294

I will keep reading and comparing to see if I can spot other instances of copying.

Cheers!

The author's updated since I first reported their story, and there are a few other verbatim sentences lifted, though not in such a concentrated cluster as the section I posted.

(Btw, the red box outline is in the wrong place in the original story...the copied section starts at least five paragraphs earlier.) :)

That was the "shouty man" section, but it's actually proved rather 'interesting' isolating exactly what got copied.

Anyway, the story has been taken down. Not coincidentally, I PMed the author today. :P

It appears to be gone. Either the mods actually DID something at FFN or the 'author' was embarrassed enough at being caught out to pull it. So, victory one way or the other.

Aw, thanks very much. :) And yeah, me too...it feels a lot better knowing the fic's not out there anymore.
