The Case Against Invader Zim Fanatic and 27cowboys
On 24 March, roguemudblood reported that Invader Zim Fanatic a.k.a. The Vamp Child had posted several plagiarised works on Scribd. They also reported that 27cowboys had also plagiarised one of these works, TEXTually active by Char.loves.to.write. That report is here.
As roguemudblood noted, Scribd adheres to a strict legal procedure for DCMA copyright infringement takedown notices. Only the copyright holder or an agent thereof is able to file a claim of copyright infringement. I have written to Scribd to ask what other actions might be taken against a serial plagiarist like Invader Zim Fanatic, but there has been no response to date.
However, the response from 27cowboys was more successful. Here is screencapped evidence of the plagiarism - the original story is on the left and the copied one is on the right.
I contacted 27cowboys about the claims, and they responded: I'm so sorry. My friend had sent me the story stating she wrote it and asked me to post it here. I did not realize it could have been someone else's work. I will delete it right away. I have confirmed that the story has been removed from FF.net.
27cowboys will be added to the list of known plagiarists for a year and, if there are no further incidences, will then be removed. Invader Zim Fanatic is being added indefinitely to the list of known plagiarists.
