Plagiarism in Glee Fandom

Apr 22, 2012 21:33

Hi,

My Glee/Klaine fanfiction, An Accidental Chance has been plagiarised on FF.net. I started posting my story on LJ in December 2011 and at the link above in January. The poster xbeckyx2009x is posting my story under almost the exact same title, with an identical summary, here. Her fic went up recently. While it is not word for word (she has ( Read more... )

Hi! My name is Synful Trixxie and I will be your mod. If you could post a screen cap of the fic in question just in case the person on fanfiction.net takes it down, I would appreciate it.

Here, I grabbed a few comparison shots of just the first chapter.

Not quite a word for word plagiarism, but pretty close.

No problem, I was pretty much in shock when I saw this.

Same here. She actually contacted me and denied any wrongdoing (she said she's never read my story).

Of course she hasn't. The plot and words and scenes just popped into her brain, it's magical how that happens. (It looks like she also Finchel-fied a movie without crediting it.) I said this on ffrants, but her title didn't even make sense.

LOL! (wow, really?)

At any rate, someone pointed me to her Tumblr and her ScarvesandCoffee account, where she has me listed as one of her favorite authors. What's ffrants? (is clueless... and no, it didn't, lol)

It's a coincidence! She's never seen you before. ~Magic~

I just can't even right now, lol. I had considered not writing her back and just letting it go (and letting the people here take care of it), but now I feel like I have to say something to her.

Seriously, though, let the folks here take care of it, now. It's down from ff.net, at least. *hugs and penguins*

Yes, at least it's down (though I do feel creeped out knowing she's still watching my S&C activity). *hugs* Thanks again for you help. :D

If it's just to point out her own stupidity to embarress her, then that should be pretty satisfying.

That said, it takes a hell of a lot of balls for a plaigeriser to contact an author directly O.o. I've rarely seen that before.

I almost did, but I'm trying to let it go.

I've heard of cases where it's happened before - I was surprised that she did though.

It's a pretty stupid thing to do to tell an author that you plaigerised that you've never even read their work when they are on your favourite authors list. This person obviously didn't think through their 'innocence-proving' plan too well.

Yep, I'm still marveling over that.

Thank you so much!

It looks like someone has beaten me to the screen caps, and I've learned the story is down now. Is there anything else I need or should do?
