Maraich had everything all set up. They had made a large sign to put in front of the door and placed it outside.
It clearly read:
NO CLOTHING ALLOWED IN THIS ROOM
A few feet away he'd put up another sign with large print and an arrow pointing away that said:
ITALY WENT THAT WAY

So, trying to at least be a little accommodating, he got everyone out of the main room and tried to quietly pass the time with card games and snacks.
