He'd been soaking for long enough to doze off, arms draped along the edges of the pool and head resting against a convenient ridge in that same edge. Somewhere in the back of his sluggish, sleep-muddled brain he sensed a familiar, vaguely ominous presence drawing closer to where he was relaxing, but the identity didn't really register until he heard the sound of water lapping on ankles and legs, and by then it was too late to make a discreet exit, even if he'd wanted to.

Which, after the other night, he wasn't actually certain was really necessary anymore. Anyway, he was feeling far too relaxed to freak out about it right now.

When Lucifer spoke, Crowley lifted his head and opened his eyes (uncovered, for once, by the otherwise ever-present sunglasses), and looked over at his former boss with a hint of his own usual smirk. "What a coincidence."

Lucifer's expression turned to one of more open amusement at the comment. "Are you suggesting that I arranged this meeting? While I'm sure it flatters your ego to think so, I'm afraid that, on this occasion at least, it's mere chance." As much as anything in the universe was pure chance, which was not much at all, but there was little point in mentioning the obvious.

He let his eyes slide closed as the water relaxed his body, releasing tension he couldn't quite avoid, even in retirement. It was so difficult to break the habits of a few millennia, after all.

Lucifer opened his eyes again and frowned as his gaze met the wall around the men's area. "With such a lovely view, it's a shame to ruin it with walls, don't you think? I never could understand what He was going for with this ridiculous sense of modesty."

That hadn't been precisely what Crowley had meant, but Lucifer looked amused rather than annoyed, so he'd let that one slide.

He closed his eyes again and slouched down further into the hot water, and stayed that way, weirdly relaxed considering his companion, until the other demon spoke again. He opened his eyes and followed Lucifer's gaze to the wall separating the men's bath from the women's.

"Who knows?" he said, shrugging. "Maybe He thought it was funny." That explanation had occurred to Crowley on occasion, because damned if he hadn't witnessed hundreds of hilarious awkward situations involving nudity and the predictable response to it. "It is a shame about the view, though," he remarked. Although, from where he was sitting, the view wasn't too bad. He wasn't quite blase enough to openly ogle the Prince of Darkness, but that didn't stop him from appreciating what he could see of his body.

"That explanation would be far more likely if He'd ever had a sense of humor to speak of." At least, if He had, Lucifer had certainly never noticed it. In that, he supposed they were somewhat like, although he liked to think that he had a healthy appreciation for irony, at the very least. "I suppose it was more likely a punishment of its own." A somewhat effective one, he had to admit, perhaps even inventive, if slightly ridiculous ( ... )

"That's as likely an explanation as any." Funny, how it was totally useless to ponder the ways and whys of His mind, and yet, despite that, one question or another almost always inevitably came up. "Quite a good one, if that's how it was meant."

He could feel Lucifer's golden eyes on him from time to time, in much the same capacity as the other night, and couldn't help smirking slightly. As a demon, he was a truly shameless creature by nature, and that really was not something any amount of time spent among humans would change, regardless of how many other habits he might accidentally or purposefully pick up from them.

When the other demon casually changed part of the dividing wall, Crowley of course had a look, and had to agree - the view was much nicer like this. The two women in the adjacent pool who appeared completely unaware that they could be seen were simply an added bonus.
