[ The stage is set. The building is comfortable, you may or may not be in costume, but the one thing you are in is good company. There's fizzy orange drinks with cute little bat-shaped ice cubes, cakes of all kinds, emphasis on the sweet. But hey, if you don't have a sweet tooth, there's always that fine looking meat cake over there.

There's classic music tracks from old Halloween movies, the animated Sleepy Hollow playing on a TV, and there's even apple bobbing. Who apple bobs indoors? You do, apparently.

This is surprisingly nice. ]

[A Halloween party. See? She's getting out? This is enough right?]

[She's just dressed up in her more formal detective attire instead of a costume and sipping some of the drinks. Okay, so the ice cubes were a nice touch, but if you ask about the ring on her finger, you might find orange drink in your hair.]

[He doesn't exactly have a costume, but the Drive has provided him with something that could substitute.]

[So enter one Thanatos, looming above him constantly as he can't unsummon it.]

Didn't expect to see you out here.

[She looks up at Thanatos, but then down at Minato, nodding]

Well, I wasn't going to trick-or-treat... and everyone's been insisting that I should get out more.

[ Who hit the lights?

There was just a house-wide power shortage, but before you start digging for your guides or other sources of light, it flickers back on. Seems like it was just a spook. Huh. Magic users of the highly sensitive type might be feeling majorly distressed. You are all locked in, and nothing is going to get you out. No spells, door breaking, or charging will do the trick. Everything is sealed.

And one guest member is missing. But for right now, you might get one strangled message out onto the network saying something funny is going on before losing all contact.

Chatter amongst yourselves. Something is not right. ]

[Honestly? As of the moment, this doesn't faze him too much. It's Halloween. In a large house. He really should have guessed there would be some haunted house shenanigans about even before it happened.]

[Doors locking was going a bit far, though. Oh well. They'll open soon enough, right? In the meantime, he'll just chill. Wait for this trick to pass.]

[All the while Thanatos floats a bit above him. Because that counts as a costume.]

Wah!

[O-okay this shouldn't be so scary, but some habits never go away.]

Y-you think it's a prank?

Well, it's Halloween, we're in a large mansion, it's evening, and we don't even know who the hosts are.

I'd say there's a prank planned.

[ Now that you have all of that out of the way, there's a thundering crash coming from the kitchen area. It's not a good crash. Not an 'oops, I dropped a tray' crash. Something was slammed into something and if you're ready to kick down some doors and figure out what's going on...

... you'll find the body of thighbelt, stabbed through the heart with a kitchen knife. Evidence of the culprit is all around. A meat tenderizer to knock her out sits in the sink. A smashed glass cabinet shows signs of an obvious struggle that didn't turn out too well.

And with two open exits, there's not a criminal to be seen in sight.

Looks like we've got a mystery on our hands, gang.]

[So hearing loud, bad crashing noises was something she did a lot. Kicking down doors to see what made the noise? Also happened a lot! Criminals to fight, things like that, and she was expecting to see more people busting through the doors on the other side, charging in and ready to beat up some bad guys and make bad puns.]

[She was expecting to see Steph in the room. She wasn't expecting to see anything like this.]

[She shifts from determined-business-mode to absolutely-panicky-friend-mode in an instant.]

Steph-!

[she's not moving it's so obvious she doesn't need to check for a pulse living people don't lie like that living people don't stay that still and she should start looking at the clues but she's sure she'll screw it up and this can't be happening again-]

[Naoto hurries after Cassandra at the sounds and stops at the sight. Her eyes widen. Well, this is certainly one way to ruin a party. Yes, you aren't getting any deader from a knife wound to the chest. Directly into the heart; bleeding out would occur in less than a minute]

[She walks forward to begin her inspection and take notes. Really, she wasn't expecting her notebook and pen to be used right now, but... here she goes.]

[It's all she can do to not mess up the crime scene, backing out of the way as quickly as possible. She should have sparred with Steph more- she had been getting better but if she couldn't avoid the blow from behind-]

[this wasn't the time for that. she had to catch whoever did this and make them pay.]

[ You don't want this nonsense? Fair enough. Until 1 AM, you're free to spectate, speculate, and try to break out all you like. You were played like a fiddle. Try breaking some windows or vents, one body is one body too many.]

[oh I'm sorry did you guys want to avoid the crime scene?]

[because there's a girl in a pink Bo Peep costume flinging the doors open back into the ballroom and giving everyone a murderous glare.]

Who went in there.

[ You might not be as fast to this one, as opposed to the glass shattering signal from last time, this is a mere thud. Inside the library, you'll find the poisoned body of pishirogane. Poisoned how? Well, the bubbles around her lips and the innocent glass on the table seems to tell tales.

But there's only one entrance in and out of the library, but there has been an hour since the last murder.

But Naoto is a detective, isn't she? Certainly the glass would be watched after, right?

Hmm... ]

[Kanji's been trying to give Naoto space to get to work on this case but he can't help it - he's worried about her. Even though she can look after herself, with a murderer on the loose he has to protect her. That's what boyfriends do, right?

And so he heads to the library, an obvious place for her to find somewhere quiet to deliberate]

Hey, Naoto. I-

[Silence. Because he's just spotted her and he doesn't need to look too closely to know she's dead. For a long moment he just stands and stares.

Then, this is where others may get their clue that something's amiss. Because there is a clear sound of things getting thrown and broken. Because screw the crime scene, someone just killed his girlfriend. And he's expressing his grief the only way he knows how - through rage]

[The noise definitely gets him to go see what was the matter. Perhaps another murder?]

[It... doesn't take long after he enters the library for him to figure out what went on. The body, and Kanji's action. He's not too sure on the cause of death just yet, but right now the important part was to stop Kanji before he messed up the crime scene further or hurt anyone.]

[For a moment, though, he does consider joining him. After all, this is the death of a close friend. Part of him wants to start demolishing the entire house to find the culprit.]

[But no. That won't work, and that won't help.]

[And so, not giving a damn for his own safety, he approaches him and places a firm hand on his shoulder.]

Tatsumi. That is not going to help us right now. Calm down.

[Well, even if it doesn't help, Chie's going to help break things.]

[Come on, dude, this is one of her best friends. D<]

I was just-- talking to her, dammit! How the hell did this happen?!
