There's classic music tracks from old Halloween movies, the animated Sleepy Hollow playing on a TV, and there's even apple bobbing. Who apple bobs indoors? You do, apparently.
This is surprisingly nice. ]

[She's just dressed up in her more formal detective attire instead of a costume and sipping some of the drinks. Okay, so the ice cubes were a nice touch, but if you ask about the ring on her finger, you might find orange drink in your hair.]

[So enter one Thanatos, looming above him constantly as he can't unsummon it.]
Didn't expect to see you out here.

Well, I wasn't going to trick-or-treat... and everyone's been insisting that I should get out more.

There was just a house-wide power shortage, but before you start digging for your guides or other sources of light, it flickers back on. Seems like it was just a spook. Huh. Magic users of the highly sensitive type might be feeling majorly distressed. You are all locked in, and nothing is going to get you out. No spells, door breaking, or charging will do the trick. Everything is sealed.
And one guest member is missing. But for right now, you might get one strangled message out onto the network saying something funny is going on before losing all contact.
Chatter amongst yourselves. Something is not right. ]

[Doors locking was going a bit far, though. Oh well. They'll open soon enough, right? In the meantime, he'll just chill. Wait for this trick to pass.]
[All the while Thanatos floats a bit above him. Because that counts as a costume.]

[O-okay this shouldn't be so scary, but some habits never go away.]
Y-you think it's a prank?

I'd say there's a prank planned.

... you'll find the body of thighbelt, stabbed through the heart with a kitchen knife. Evidence of the culprit is all around. A meat tenderizer to knock her out sits in the sink. A smashed glass cabinet shows signs of an obvious struggle that didn't turn out too well.
And with two open exits, there's not a criminal to be seen in sight.
Looks like we've got a mystery on our hands, gang.]

[She was expecting to see Steph in the room. She wasn't expecting to see anything like this.]
[She shifts from determined-business-mode to absolutely-panicky-friend-mode in an instant.]
Steph-!
[she's not moving it's so obvious she doesn't need to check for a pulse living people don't lie like that living people don't stay that still and she should start looking at the clues but she's sure she'll screw it up and this can't be happening again-]

[She walks forward to begin her inspection and take notes. Really, she wasn't expecting her notebook and pen to be used right now, but... here she goes.]

[this wasn't the time for that. she had to catch whoever did this and make them pay.]

[because there's a girl in a pink Bo Peep costume flinging the doors open back into the ballroom and giving everyone a murderous glare.]
Who went in there.

...the hell just happened?

[it is astounding how intimidating and bat-like she can look in this cute bonnet and staff]

But there's only one entrance in and out of the library, but there has been an hour since the last murder.
But Naoto is a detective, isn't she? Certainly the glass would be watched after, right?
Hmm... ]

And so he heads to the library, an obvious place for her to find somewhere quiet to deliberate]
Hey, Naoto. I-
[Silence. Because he's just spotted her and he doesn't need to look too closely to know she's dead. For a long moment he just stands and stares.
Then, this is where others may get their clue that something's amiss. Because there is a clear sound of things getting thrown and broken. Because screw the crime scene, someone just killed his girlfriend. And he's expressing his grief the only way he knows how - through rage]

[It... doesn't take long after he enters the library for him to figure out what went on. The body, and Kanji's action. He's not too sure on the cause of death just yet, but right now the important part was to stop Kanji before he messed up the crime scene further or hurt anyone.]
[For a moment, though, he does consider joining him. After all, this is the death of a close friend. Part of him wants to start demolishing the entire house to find the culprit.]
[But no. That won't work, and that won't help.]
[And so, not giving a damn for his own safety, he approaches him and places a firm hand on his shoulder.]
Tatsumi. That is not going to help us right now. Calm down.

[Come on, dude, this is one of her best friends. D<]
I was just-- talking to her, dammit! How the hell did this happen?!
