[Still on his way home, he's been detoured from his usual, direct route by unannounced construction. His last cigarette (from his open pack) is long gone, and his mood is worse than it was even minutes ago. An alien passerby, a stranger, bumps into him before hurrying away with a mumbled apology, and it takes all the self-control he posesses not to lash out at the intrusion. His patience is stretcehd to the breaking point, poised to snap at an untoward moment. The construction is at a standstill - the work finished for the day - and Hakkai ignores the holographic yellow DO NOT CROSS 'tape' separating the construction from the rest of the station and crosses anyway. This route is the most direct, and - perhaps more importantly - empty of people.]

[Mostly empty of people, at least.

Because there are people on this ship who aren't fond of following directions other than their own, which can manifest in the simplest of ways, such as neglecting bolded text reading DO NOT CROSS. Wesker is easily one of these people, more apt to walk his own route, no matter what.

Especially if aforementioned route is more direct, more effective than any ridiculous zig-zagging line he'd have to make in order to avoid the construction.

He's walking in the opposite direction, so he soon sees Hakkai approaching. Someone of a similar mindset, perhaps?

His strides are long and purposeful, as usual, and when he speaks his tone is inflected with dry irony.]

I was under the impression that this area was off-limits to passer-bys.

[He's on his guard as soon as he notices the man approaching him from the opposite direction - adrenaline floods his system and his muscles tense in anticipation. The man's purposeful, dominant strides make him itch, and the sparks of qi that appear and disappear again on the fingertips of his free hand happen without conscious effort or thought on his part.

When the man speaks, Hakkai raises an eyebrow. He smiles when he replies, though the expression is simply automatic and empty, more meaningless than usual.]

Yes? So?

[Wesker was either oblivious to the stranger's tell-tale signs of curious anticipation or he simply remained unfazed by it. Undoubtedly it was the latter. The scientist was rather used to people reacting in odd ways upon seeing him, though this wasn't usually the case concerning complete strangers.

It was easy enough to believe that someone might be caught off-guard by his sudden and somewhat intimidating appearance, especially in the midst of a supposedly empty construction zone.

Something in the back of his mind, however, told him that it didn't seem quite that simple. Curious, indeed, what one might stumble upon while on this ship.]

[His response is automatic, as well, but vaguely intrigued.]

So, we're not one for following rules, are we? Of course, such a sentiment is fairly mutual.

[He assesses the man before him as he continues to speak, tilting his head slightly; they're about the same height, though the stranger is muscular where Hakkai is not. There's probably a good fifteen or twenty kilos' difference between their respective weight...not that Hakkai finds that terribly concerning. He's killed bigger men than this one with little effort.]

It's the most direct route. Taking a detour would be a waste of time.

[Much like this conversation; he doesn't say it, but heavily implies it with the tone of his voice.]

[Now that he's closer, it isn't difficult for Wesker to read the stranger's body language. Tensed muscles, a glance which was undoubtedly an assessment of his own strength, and a tone that meant much more than what was merely said. All these pointed to signs of confrontation and the scientist almost laughed, the corners of his mouth dangerously pulling upwards.

He wasn't even looking for a fight, for once. And he was still uncertain why he finds himself drawing closer to one, unless his very existence was an offense to this man.

Perhaps it was. And a capital offense at that.]

As it often is.

[Wesker's stance remained relaxed, though he was unmoving. He was not the type to back down from the challenge, however unexpected.]

No point in 'wasting time', then. I suppose you should just get right to it.

[Hakkai wasn't in the best of moods to begin with, and everything about this man is quickly making his mood worse; his relaxed, unconcerned posture, his smile, self-confident and amused, his tone of voice, careless, unbothered.

The qi at his fingertips sparks again, without conscious direction from Hakkai. The small silver cuffs on his left ear feel suddenly constricting, almost burning as they contain his youkai energy.

He smiles at the sensation, and at the man's invitation, a wide, mirthless grin.]

Ah. If you insist.

[He moves then, dropping his bag of groceries to the ground with little care for the contents. He may not be as fast as Goku, but he's still much faster than any human. It's so unlike him, to provoke a fight, but the combination of his mood and the stranger's attitude make him want to cave in the man's skull.

Which he will attempt to do from behind with a solid kick aimed at the back of his head]

[Wesker's "modified" eyes (cat-like, red-orange, and almost always hidden behind dark shades) were the sole reason why the scientist was able to register any movement at all from his opponent. From the onset, he noted somewhere in the back of his mind that this would be no normal confrontation.

Then again, nothing on the Thor ever really was.

He perceives the man's movement in the same manner he can perceive his own when moving at impossible speeds. His opponent was quick to attack, quick to put all of this to an end if the blow aimed to the back of the skull meant anything. Wesker, however, felt no obligation to make this a short fight.]

[He moves, then, quickly and just enough to avoid the hit; it's a sidestep at best, fast and without unnecessary grace. His opponent is almost directly next to him, now, and a prime target for a hard elbow to the face or chin.

Which is what Wesker will follow-up with, naturally.]

[Somehow, Hakkai isn't surprised when the man not only dodges his blow, but immediately retaliates with one of his own. He, too, steps quickly out of range, avoiding a potentially uncomfortable encounter with the man's elbow, and pauses long enough to adjust his glasses. Everything about the man's appearance suggests human, but his speed alone says otherwise. Hakkai wonders what he is, exactly, even as his smile changes - delight at a challenge. He normally keeps his urge for violence under strict control, but for whatever reason his inexplicable anger has shattered his usual inhibition -

- As well as his usual caution; it only takes a moment to shove his glasses up higher on his nose, and he's pushing the offensive again, aiming a low kick at his opponent's ankles.]

[The small reprieve in-between attacks isn't much of a reprieve at all, and soon after Wesker's attack misses his mark, he finds he has yet another to deal with. His ankles are the targets now, and he finds himself quickly stepping back to avoid it and the ungraceful consequences of being hit by such a move.

His dark boots scrape against the dirty, dust-ridden and concrete-esque ground of the construction site as he nearly slides backwards. He could retaliate with something reminiscent to martial arts, as well, and in fact he preferred to utilize his skills in this way.

So not a split second later, Wesker is straightening and soon preparing a high axe kick; the hard heel of his boot plummets downwards in an attempt to do forceful damage wherever it may connect.]

[He manages to avoid the descending heel, but only just. He can feel the vibrations from the impact on the ground beneath him, and backs off for a second time. His opponent is strong, at least as strong as he is, and that's something to consider - or it would be, if Hakkai were thinking straight. As it is, once there are several body-lengths of distance between them, he tries something else: a series of short qi blasts, fired in quick succession, designed simply to test. Contact with one will deliver a sharp sting, and perhaps numbness, but little else. Regardless of whether or not they hit, however, he will see more of how his opponent moves, and at this time that's what he wants most.]

[Wesker is at a disadvantage and has no projectiles to use against his opponent (unless he were to remove his gun from its holster, hidden under his dark coat, but now was hardly the time); thankfully, he is very practised at avoiding them. The man had lost track of the countless times he's been shot at, and he had always retaliated by moving closer, all the while weaving in and out of bullets hurdling his way.

He does just that, all in a blur, though the perpetually scientific side of him wonders what effect these unfamiliar blasts would have on him.

He doesn't have to wonder for too long, however. Bullets are easy enough to dodge, but the qi blasts require a wider berth, something that Wesker has not had time to acclimate to just yet. One grazes his shoulder and he frowns at the sting, and can feel a numbness travelling down his arm.

Numbness or not, the arm was still usable, and if given the opportunity to close the gap between them, he was going to use it to attempt to place a well-aimed punch directly in the chest.]

[His opponent dodges his projectiles easily, as Hakkai had suspected he would, and moves forward incredibly quickly, suddenly and seriously pushing the offensive. This is the sort of fighting Hakkai is used to - quick, aggressively executed attacks pushing him to take a defensive stance. Which is perfectly fine, and actually, in the mood he's in right now, he prefers it.

Hakkai blocks the punch aimed for his chest with his left forearm, directing his opponent's fist wide with a quick sweeping motion and simultaneously turning to the side, presenting a narrower target as he attempts to grab Wesker's arm with both hands and use the man's momentum to knock him to the ground]

((ooc; my turn to apologize for horrendous lateness! Sorry!!))

[Wesker finds himself caught in an odd position - with his hand "tied", so to speak, his balance being thrown off awkwardly, and his opponent currently not making himself an easy target. All the speed in the world used to avoid is useless if the man has a firm grip on his forearm, which does seem to be the case.

Instead, he'll allow himself to go down; his pride, of course, does not take well to the idea, but his tactical mind overrides pride for the time being. He won't allow himself to crumble unceremoniously, though. Instead, he finds himself in a kneeling-esque position, which allows him to shift his body weight and retaliate with a quick leg-sweep.]

((ooc: No worries! I'm just coming out of slowatus mode, so it's all cool.))

[[Hakkai is only able to be pleased at his success for a moment before it's his turn to be knocked off his feet. He twists somewhat awkwardly in an attempt to recover, and is able to use a move he's seen Goku employ before to fairly good effect, by twisting head-over-end backwards and catching most of his falling weight on the palm of his right hand and using his left for stability, he reverses the motion of his fall and flips himself over in a fairly competent manner. It's not exactly elegant but it gets him back on his feet at a distance of two or three strides away from his opponent]]

[Someone familiar and yet looking different in some sort of fundamental fashion has chosen to explore this construction site for no particular reason. DO NOT CROSS? Rules were for squares, but the girl with long hair wasn't going to spend too much time loitering around these parts, honest! That's what she was telling herself anyways.

Lien was lucky to not have had any major effects from the perfumes. She was relieved, but just slightly irritated at the same time. She just got this long hair she hadn't had for years swaying gently back and forth as she looked at her surroundings. The esper lightly brushed her fingers across various objects letting bits of information flow into her head. She needed the practice.

But then she saw Hakkai. A bright smile lit up at his presence and she felt like she could just skip on over to him. But she kept calm and just waved over to him, blissfully unaware of his current mood. She was still a good distance away from noticing how anything was off about her friend.]

Hey, Hakkai!
