[This food is delicious, isn't it? Wow, it really is delicious. So delicious that Japan would like to enjoy it in a corner somewhere by himself-- but he's not so lucky, right? He's the one who approached everyone about attending this get-together, so if you want to grill someone on precisely why you're here, he's probably a likely target. After all, chances are his explanation about the whole thing was less than satisfactory and included some extreme vagueness, as Japan's wont to do.

Bug him?]

[Busy eating is good. Japan supports a lack of mealtime conversation, for the purposes of this meeting. For this reason, he looks slightly pale when addressed, finding himself mysteriously occupied with his cup for a moment before answering.]

... His name is Miles Edgeworth-san. [Now that he thinks about it, did he actually mention that before? It may have been a victim of his vagueness.] He is an attorney.

[Spain's pretty much helping himself, taking in all that delicious delicious food. Count on Italy to make food this good. But of course he doesn't forget who invited him in the first place, and makes a note of sitting near Japan.]

So what's the occasion?

[It is pretty good, isn't it? Watch out, if Japan eats much more, he'll start saying 'Paaastaaa~' in that disconcerting voice. As it is, he just looks startled when initially addressed. Does he always do that?]

Ah, Spain-san...! [He settles a little.] There is a person who wished to meet with us.

[Somehow that seems even better. Who doesn't want a little more Italy in their life? Spain certainly does.

He shifts in closer when Japan addresses him: you can't have a proper conversation if you're far away! As per usual, he doesn't really notice anything out of the ordinary here.]

Who is it? Do I know him?

[Can you handle two Italys, Spain? Wait, don't answer that. Can you handle three?

Japan would beg to differ about the correct distance one should maintain when holding a conversation, but he has known Spain more than long enough to appreciate the difference of opinion. He blinks a few times.]

I am not sure. Perhaps not... I met him some time ago, shortly after I arrived. His name is Edgeworth-san.

[He can handle as many as life wants to throw at him.

He chews on the cannoli thoughtfully, swallowing before speaking.]

Nope, I don't think I met him before. What does he want to meet us for?

[Suddenly envisioning the world overrun with Italys.]

He is an attorney. [Staring into his cup like it contains the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.] I believe he has some questions for us. I apologize if it was inconvenient for Spain-san to attend.

[Isn't it glorious]

Don't tell me he wants us to change laws here! [By the way the answer is 42.] It's not inconvenient but I rather not work on that right now! I don't even have any of the paperwork with me.

[It sounds like the beginnings of heart trouble to Japan.]

I do not believe that is his intention. He is curious about the validity of our 'claim' to be what we are. [42 is in Japan's cup?!] I do not believe he found my answers satisfying.

[Shock of the century there.]

[is it good heart trouble...]

Oh really? What did you tell him? I hope you didn't tell him about all the weird stuff that happens every year because I wouldn't believe it either!

[The jury's still out on that, perhaps.]

Nothing like that!

Then did you tell him about everyone else?

I might have mentioned that there were other nations present. America-san, for one, because I believe Edgeworth-san lived in America. [...] I thought it might help to speak to a country with which he was familiar.
