It is an unfortunate truth that Kiriko, on his own, has never saved a life.
Despite being a Doctor himself, his lifesaving work had only ever occurred with the help of another, better physician. Even on the battlefield, Kiriko had only ever successfully treated minor, non-fatal injuries - anything worse and he had elected instead to send his fallen brothers to the grave.
Dr. Kiriko had never been good at much else but the art of death. Still, he had tried, with everything he had, to save Polly.
It was after three sleepless nights and with very little to eat or drink that he had finally found her after her kidnapping last November - insane, in the centre of the Thor Shopping Centre, burning the thousands of innocent citizens around her alive. He had said and done horrible things to snap her out of her insanity, but he had done it. He had succeeded. He had nearly extended his hand to her, ready to take her home, to put an end to her suffering, when-
There was a flash of crimson light and Polly turned her head - energy impaled her, ran her through, straight through the centre of her brain. An arms reach away from him.
And then she fell, her eyes blank as if dead before finally shutting to fall into a coma that she could have very well never woken from.
...Eternals were immortal, so they never truly died as humans did. However, should their hunger for mental stimulation not be met, a worse fate awaited them. A stillness Kiriko had come to fear more than anything, a condition that could not be cured by anyone other than Polly herself, with time - infinite sleep without waking. Infinite sleep without dreams or consciousness or existence. After she had been struck down, she laid in a coma for a week, unresponsive and with no way (or so Kiriko had thought) of hearing him or receiving her "food." With how peaceful she looked, she could have already entered stillness - it was impossible to guess. The Doctor had truly believed he was going to lose her, and waiting for her to wake up had driven him half insane and took many years from his life.
And to think he had come so close to preventing it.
It wasn't until later that Kiriko discovered the name of the woman who had done it. Remilia Scarlet. He knew going after her would not be easy. She was well-liked, had many dangerous friends, was very powerful herself. But with his six-week flight aboard Loki mere hours away, there was never a more opportune time to take his revenge - and disappear without a trace.
Remilia was lucky that she had chosen to stay away from Polly since then. For this, her "life" would be spared. Indeed, even with the explosive silver bullets he had nestled inside his concealed rifle, Kiriko had no intention of actually killing the bitch. But the Doctor would not allow her to get away without first understanding the intense fear of death.
Perhaps she had even forgotten. Perhaps everyone had forgotten. But that would make her suffering that much sweeter.
Hidden in a crowd beneath a long black cloak, Dr. Kiriko drew nearer.
