When Zoro saw a job for pirates, he thought this would be the perfect job for him. He was a real pirate, after all. So naturally, he was confused when his employer handed him a stereotypical pirate costume to wear during the show. He's wearing an open vest with a ruffly, white shirt underneath. A thick, black belt with a large buckle holds up his baggy pants, which are tucked into knee-high boots. His three katana have been replaced with a plastic saber, he's been forced to wear an eyepatch over his scarred eye, and a styrofoam parrot has been glued to his shoulder. The only familiar piece of clothing was his black bandanna tied around his head.
Reluctant to go on stage, the manager shoved Zoro out in front of the audience, where he continued to just stand there and frown at his costume.
"The hell does this even have to do with pirates...?" he grumbled. Back in his world, there was no typical pirate "look." There were pirates of all shapes and sizes, but Zoro couldn't recall seeing anything like this.
Suddenly, a glowing portal opened up on stage behind Zoro, revealing a very angry-looking boy with green hair. He had just lost a duel - his 2000th duel, to be specific, and he was very much not pleased.
"DAMN!! Why can't I defeat her?!" he shouted, whipping his two shinai at the ground.
"But Zoro, Kuina is older than you," the sensei kindly pointed out.
"Even adults can't beat me! I want to sail and become the world's number one swordsman! I won't lose to anyone ever again!!"
The scene faded and skipped to night. It's after Zoro and Kuina fought for the 2001st time, but it's clear that Zoro lost yet again, and this time they had been using real katana. Kuina was sitting on the ground with tears in her eyes as she spoke with Zoro who stood up, passionately brandishing his swords.
"Let's make a promise!" he yelled. "One of us must become the number one swordsman in the world! Let's see who can reach that goal first!"
"Stupid! You are a person who lost to me!" she said, wiping the tears from her eyes. Still, she smiled and took Zoro's hand. "I promise!"
Again, the scene faded to the next morning. Zoro had just learned that Kuina had taken a fatal fall down the stairs. Tears streaming down his face, he lowered himself to his knees and bowed before his teacher.
"Sensei! Please gift me with her sword!" he begged. "I will be even greater! I will become the world's number one swordsman, so great that even heaven will hear of my great name!!"
On the stage, Zoro watched the scene, re-living those moments with a wide eye. His grip tightens on his plastic sword, and he's not afraid to use it as a real weapon, if need be. This definitely isn't something he'd willingly share with anyone so openly like this, so he's pretty pissed off that someone would pull off such a trick.
"Where the hell did this come from?" he scowled, scanning the area for anyone who looked like they might be suspicious. But before anything else could happen, the portal revealed
another scene from his past. Fortunately, this is a memory he doesn't feel too horribly about, but still, having his personal business on display for everyone is putting him in a pretty foul mood.
