[She tries to keep her studious nature a secret, her love of stories and thirst of knowledge. But the simple truth of it is that, during those precious hours when she's not in school or making money, her favorite place to be is the library. Which is where she spent this afternoon, hiding away in a secluded corner, reading through novels her eyes had never touched before.]
["I know exactly how you feel", Schmendrick said eagerly. The unicorn looked at him out of dark, endless eyes, and he smiled nervously and looked at his hands. "It's a rare man who is taken for what he truly is," he said. "There is much misjudgment in the world. Now I knew you for a unicorn when I first saw you, and I know that I am your friend. Yet you take me for a clown, or a clod, or a betrayer, and so must I be if you see me so. The magic on you is only magic and will vanish as soon as you are free, but the enchantment of error that you put on me I must wear forever in your eyes. We are not always ( ... )

[Figures...she was always so bossy.]
[Well, hopefully, what he had in his hand would cheer her up.]
[He looks around, ducking between shelves piles of books, for any tuft of bright blond hair that would belong to his study partner.]

[So, using the best stealth she can manage, she's going to walk up behind him and see how close she can get without him noticing.]
[And then, in a softened voice, she says...]

[So he just...shoves a small to medium sized box into her arms.]
[There's a red ribbon around it.]

A gift...?
[Didn't the holidays end a few weeks ago? Huh. Well, she is not one to question or refuse gifts. Carefully, she unties the red ribbon, and opens the box.]

[He merely clears his throat and wonders if he has to explain why he got it.]

[No, he doesn't. She remembers that whole argument. And she offers him a sweet, forgiving smile as thanks.]
... did you bring forks, too?
[Even though there's a sign nearby clearly stating NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE LIBRARY. As long as they're careful, it should be fine, right?]

Right. I think I know just the spot. Come on!
[Carrying the cake box in one hand and tugging his sleeve with the other, she leads him into that secluded little corner she had grown so fond of, which conveniently has two armchairs positioned near a small table.]
[... the same table she left The Last Unicorn on. Whoops. But hey, there's no way he could know she was the one reading it, right?]

[When they came to the table, he took a look at the book set upon it.]
Hey...I think I've heard of this book before.
