The speed of Polly's recovery was no longer a joy to Dr. Kiriko.

Little evidence remained of Polly's head injury, the wound from the energy spear that had run her through only weeks ago. It was a medical success, the girl had nearly completely healed. Her brain had restored itself quickly, and the Doctor was quick to realize he had been worked up over so little. And though other bruises and lacerations still remained, they were hardly crippling. Kiriko stopped treating those some time ago, letting Polly's body take care of the rest - a slow process her body took little priority of. The slower they healed, the better for him.

Each day Kiriko felt less like a Doctor and more of a jailer. Though Polly (to his knowledge) did not see it the same way, Kiriko was purposefully keeping Polly a prisoner in her own home, limiting her freedom. He kept her shut inside her Suite and strictly forbid visitors, locking the door both inside and out, keeping the key in his coat at all times. He hardly left, and kept a constant watch on his charge. Though he did not deny her the use of the Guide, he kept a careful eye on what messages she might be sending. Though it was distrusting, he couldn't bear it if she were to tip off the authorities; she simply wasn't healthy enough, he explained to her profusely.

But it was no longer about her injuries or her mental state. Kiriko would keep her to himself, away from the cruelty of a cell forever, if he could manage it. He couldn't bear to think of her locked away, secluded and mistreated like a criminal, instead of him.

It just wouldn't happen.

Now, oblivious to the more sinister plot hatched against them, Kiriko quietly tapped on Polly's bedroom door, a steaming cup of tea upon a saucer in his hand.

"Polly, are you still awake?"

kiriko, polly zyanya
