There are few things more excitable than a ten year old boy, especially when encountering something new. But the boundless energy is a thousand times more explosive when they are encountering something that they have dreamt of meeting.
Matthew had always, before he even knew what they were, dreamt of meeting a ghost. In the back of his mind and at the front of his soul was the desire to be with something which passed through the gates of death. He had spent the whole day preparing-cleaning, getting his pale little hands on some cake (his guide said that some ghost ate and some didn't. He wasn't taking any chances), and making sure his creatures were in their best shape in case he showed them to her. As his guest would be princess, he wore his his nicest suit-it had frills and ruffles, and he didn't even follow his habit of rolling the sleeves up. The effect of the decorations was slightly ruined by the fact it was black on black, but he didn't notice that at all.
But the best part of all, was when he took his ring off, the power of his soul no longer contained. He didn't feel any different with it off, but it was nice to know that he could finally share himself with someone, not hold back a thing. Now there was nothing left to do but fidget in impatience.
