Was that voice a little deeper? Even so, Meiran knew what Wufei sounded like. She pushed herself up into a sitting position and smirked to neatly cover her surprise as she looked him over. So they were in the same situation then.
"While I would have recognized you even if I didn't know you were coming. Glad to see you haven't been turned into a child."
"You always were quiet when we were children," Meiran said with a snort. She leaned back once more when Wufei sat beside her, looking up at him and properly taking in the changes in his face. Leaner, features sharpened. As much as she was unlikely to admit it, her husband had become quite handsome.
She leaned against him comfortably, much more relaxed with her husband than she would have been even just a week before her arrival on the ship. It was too bad that it'd taken her death injuries to bring them closer.
"Twisted man. Can you blame me for wanting my betrothed to be a warrior?" Meiran asked, reaching up to tug his ponytail.
"What's wrong is that you kept that strength hidden until it was too late for me to appreciate it," Meiran said, twisting to look at him. But she still smiled. "I wish that too."
