Well that was reassuring. Harry had to admit, he had been rather surprised when Lelouch had announced that he had a chess set on him from his world. Then again, he thought as he picked up a knight piece and admired the details, bringing a chess set was probably more impressive than bringing your broom.

"I'll do my best," Harry probably sounded more confident than he did about the whole venture. While he was positive he would have no trouble charming the individual pieces to move as they would in Wizard Chess, he wasn't so sure he could completely undo the damage after a game. The sets he had played on were magical made with more complicated charms than the one he was about to perform. At the same time though, it wouldn't be too hard to throw in a Reparo spell afterward, right ( ... )

And as Harry did his magic, Lelouch watched with a mixture of curiosity, wonder, and perhaps... envy. There were no parlor tricks, no colorful smoke or explosions, but Lelouch recognized the sight of someone confident in his work. Harry knew what he was doing, it was written all over his face, and there could be no doubt that somehow, this other teenager was working magic. Despite this train of thought, however, Lelouch was careful to keep a calm face. Of course, there was a possibility of being disappointed after all, and he liked to at least make a show of being on top of things. Being marked by anticipation, only to be met by disappointment, was no good.

He replied nonchalantly to Harry's words as he propped an arm over his chair's arm rest and leaned on it, "It isn't. It's expensive, though. You can say that it was a reward for beating an overconfident noble..."

And he trailed away, eyes narrowing as he noticed the chess pieces moving. Magic. It made that restlessness within him stir, even more than usual, and for a moment he ( ... )

Since being aboard the Thor meant he needn't worry about the Ministry every time he showed his magic to a Muggle, Harry had made it a habit to subtly glance over to see how they took the display. It was a small thrill to see people shocked. Lelouch's face was disturbingly blank compared to all the open mouthed expressions he'd come across though, however the intensity in those eyes was something different.

"Is this anything you've seen before?" He asked, hoping for something to explain the other's non-reaction. Maybe the man was like Fai, though Harry doubted it with skepticism he had heard during their conversation over the Guide.

He poked a pawn on the head and immediately retracted his finger before the piece could hit him for that offense. Yes, everything seemed to be in working order, "Do you want to try a game? I'm probably no challenge for you, but I can play all right on average. At least, Ron doesn't complain too much about my skills."

There was a thought, that once before he'd had this feeling of commanding pawns like these; ones that moved and did as he commanded without question. He shook it off though, suddenly aware that he was staring too intensely. He smiled at Harry, almost guiltily.

"Of course. I'll be gentle, I promise." He paused and then shifted positions on his chair, so that he had his hands were clasped together. He crossed one leg over the other and then sat back. "Should I call out my orders? It doesn't look like they like being moved."
