Stopping in at the bar had been a spur of the moment decision. She was ostensibly out to do errands, but she'd hardly set a timetable for herself. While there was nothing stopping her from having a drink back in her room. sometimes she preferred the atmosphere of a good bar.

Yoruichi and Greed got along well enough the few times they'd spoken, so she certainly didn't mind giving him her business. She entered with her usual easy stride, heading straight for the bar and sliding onto a stool. Setting her shopping bag between her feet, she ordered a Wolf's Lair--brandy, cream, peach and honey liqueurs.

Decadent, yes, but she had Vogon poetry to edit later; she could use a little fortification.

The bar had certainly been busy this evening, but Kimblee didn't mind. He'd always enjoyed observing human behavior, and drinking establishments were among the best places to do so. Even now, he noticed a distinctive looking woman enter and order a drink. He'd seen her once or twice before on the feeds, but never had the pleasure of a face-to-face conversation.

"That's quite a drink," he said, speaking in her direction.

Yoruichi looked up at his words, realizing by his gaze that he was speaking to her. Automatically, she noted his appearance--dark hair, well-dressed, with a cultured air. Not someone she'd initially expect to be here, of all places.

She wasn't averse to conversation, so she shrugged, one side of her mouth quirking up in a grin. "It's pretty good, if you like your drinks sweet."

"I do," he replied with a smile. "In fact, I just finished off a delightful port. If it's to your taste, I'd highly recommend trying it."

He got up from his seat and strode forward a few steps, stopping and bowing before the woman's position. "Pardon me for my lack of manners, I should introduce myself. Solf J. Kimblee at your service."

"It's been a while since I've had port," she replied. "Perhaps I will."

When he introduced himself, she raised her eyebrows a bit at the formality, but inclined her head pleasantly in response. She may not use her manners much, but that didn't mean she didn't have any.

"Not a problem at all," she said. "Shihouin Yoruichi--Shihouin is my family name." She added the qualifier by habit, as so many people here had different customs. After a brief moment, she realized where she'd heard his name--Riza had mentioned him before as an enemy from home.

So she'd need to be on her guard, but that was no trouble; she would have done so either way. Her expression gave away none of her thoughts, however; she simply looked relaxed, her faint smile never fading.

"Ah... Yoruichi," he said, rolling the name around in his mind so it could find a home there. "A lovely name. I don't think I've heard anything quite like it before."

He seated himself once more, though this time in a seat beside the woman. "How long have you been aboard this ship? I am still something of a newcomer here. It seems I have quite a bit to learn."

Yoruichi picked up her drink once more as Kimblee took a seat, tapping her fingers lightly on the glass. He was very smooth, and she could easily see him charming most people.

"I've been here about six months, actually. I can't say I'm completely accustomed to things, either." She sipped her drink, savoring the bright peach and mellow cream flavors. "And you?"

"Oh, I've only been here about two months," he said with a sly smile. "Though long enough to realize there is seldom a dull moment."

He rather liked it that way.

She made a short noise between a sigh and a laugh. "That's certainly true. You'd think being in space was enough excitement for anyone, but people will be people."

As much as she hated to be bored, she'd had more than enough excitement over the past few months, and was looking forward to a lull.

"Ah yes, people will be people, indeed. Even after their worlds are destroyed, they continue to carry on as they had before. It's all very amusing."

Certainly the people aboard the ship were strong - after all, they'd survived the destruction of their homeworlds. But Kimblee determined the Thor was where there would be further weeding out. He felt truly blessed to among the chosen.

Yoruichi took another long pull of her drink, absently licking her mouth as she set the glass down. "Amusing? Only at times. I can certainly think of other words for people who are unwilling or unable to adapt."

People who insisted fighting battles over places and positions now no more than space dust...she just didn't see the point. Her priorities had always reflected the situation at hand, whatever that may be.

Kimblee laughed a bit at her statement. This woman didn't cut corners or mince words; he appreciated that.

"Those who cannot adapt are eventually eliminated. The only way humanity can evolve is to move forward. To stay mired in the past is death."

It rankled her a bit to agree with someone that so clearly disturbed Riza as much as Kimblee did, but she nodded, looking thoughtful.

"True enough, I suppose. The past is to be learned from and built on, but you can't stay there." While she had her broody moments, in general, she was far too pragmatic to dwell on something for too long.

So tell me, Miss Yoruichi, where is your home? I don't believe I've met anyone from your world just yet.

She chuckled, shaking her head. "Earth, like almost everyone else I've met. Just not the same one."

The idea of alternates and parallel worlds both fascinated and disturbed her; she liked to think of herself as singular, and knowing there could be multiple other Yoruichis out there didn't exactly sit well with her.

She took another sip of her drink. "I was staying in a country known as Japan when I arrived here."

"It does not appear to be the same world I'm from, then. I've never heard of a place called 'Japan.' What is it like?"
