Am I the only one getting the feeling the creators would like to have this hour back, given the Strike?
Almost everything about this episode just felt ... off. I know it was a set-up for next week's SUPERFUCKINGURGENTWATCHTHISORDIE Chapter/Season Finale, but the spark wasn't here. The final sequence, with Hiro charging at Peter -- remember how well that worked last time, Hiro? -- was nice in a Dream Match sort of way, but it's hard to root for Peter when he's still as easily manipulated as he was last season. Bet on some tension next week, but for all three to make it through to Volume III, whenever that happens.
Sylar's still hovering around, of course, and next week I guess we get to see how much of a sac Mohinder really has grown, now that he's a full-fledged Company Man. And what will Sylar and Maya do with the cure, presuming Suresh doesn't shoot them up with it? Come to think of it, we still don't know if Sy has truly recovered his mojo.
A brief aside on Maya, who has singlehandedly set Latina characters on TV back 10 years: I don't mind that she's naive, or desperate for a cure, or even that she's falling for Sylar. But seriously, her brother goes on the road with her, doesn't seem to say Word One about Maya microwaving his wife's innards on his wedding day, and puts his own life on the line for her time and again, and she still buys Sy's rap? I haven't seen a woman this easily snowed since Queen Amidala. And we know how that turned out.
Speaking of shooting, the fact that Monica didn't get her cap peeled in the house leads me to think that Niki will take the fall next week. Perhaps Nathan, too, since he's been de-emphasized in recent episodes. And hey, if Parkman, Maya or West died, would anybody shed a tear? Anybody? And with one week to go, would anybody shed a tear if the whole season went beddy-bye, too?
