PRIVATE (not so private?) CONVERSATONS rocketfaced September 2 2011, 22:24:07 UTC

[Ezio follows Watson, catching up with him quickly. By now, he has removed his hood. If they were to discuss one-on-one, it should be face-to-face, as potential allies and not men suspicious of each other and their motives.

Even if the doctor remains firm in his decision, Ezio knows that ending an argument in a civil manner as opposed to an upset manner would drastically change the outcome of things. If this meeting is any indicator of things, they as fighters are in for a very rough ride.]

Might I have a word with you, doctore?

[John stops and turns around. When he recognizes the man from the previous conversation, he frowns and crosses his arms.]

I said yes. What more do you want?

[At least the man wasn't hidden under a hood any longer.]

To talk and nothing more. I would apologize but I fear Maria [Right, yes, Maria this time...] is intent on doing this.

[He rubs the bridge of his nose and sighs. She is seriously in for something fierce of a scolding.]

Though there is some truth in it, I would prefer to hear all of your thoughts and have you make your own choice. I cannot force you into doing what you do not feel is right but I would much rather have all of us at least in some sort of understanding.

[Not agreement. Understanding.]

[John laughs a little, but there isn't much humour in it. "Intent on doing this" is a bit of an understatement.

At least this man is asking for his opinion instead of just making demands.]

All right. [He pauses to try and gather his thoughts, and realizes he has no idea who he's even speaking to.] ... Sorry, what should I call you?

My name is Ezio Auditore. You said your name was John Watson, si?

Yes. [Well at least he has a name and a face. John sighs and uncrosses his arms.]

To be honest, I don't have a bloody clue what the hell that was back there. I understand she has skills that would be very helpful in the event of a major medical emergency. I understand she needs absolute secrecy because otherwise she's in danger. That's about all I understand.

Apparently she already had a plan in mind for what she is going to do to assist the clinic, and my input wasn't necessary, just my permission. So fine, she has my permission.

[To be frank, Ezio is not sure what her display was either. It was rash and stupid, not to mention unnecessary.]

She is very skilled and I have seen it in person, but she has a will all on her own. [Admirable but not always a good thing.] She is intent at times on proving herself and what she can do now. She will be an advantage to the clinic, I do not doubt that, but she was entirely too forceful. A one-track mind as some of those here on the ship say. Say what you will, then, and be honest.

I'm not sure what you want me to say? I'm hesitant to work with someone who admitted to initially deceiving me about her abilities. I'm very hesitant to work with someone whose thinks boasting about being able to kill me is a good way to prove how valuable she is.

She's apparently in so much danger from her enemies that she needs absolute secrecy. That makes me wonder if by allowing her to work at the clinic I'm inviting even more potential danger than we already have.

Those concerns are what made me reluctant to have her in the clinic. The fact that she brushed off those concerns as unimportant and called me a fool for hesitating didn't help either.

[Oh, Guistina...]

I do not know of her enemies, but simply all of us being here in one place is dangerous enough. We are all capable of killing, that much is true, but you are right, it does not prove that anyone is truly valuable. Her value lies in her abilities of healing.

[Ezio stops to think. They are all fair points, the same ones he would make if he were taking on someone like her to his unit. No doubt she would call him a fool as well for hesitating and weighing the circumstances. The ends justify the means, that is how he lives, but he cannot let harm ever come to innocent men and women.]

I do not think she would agree to my suggestion, but perhaps not having her in the clinic constantly might be a way to make this work. Her deception cannot be blamed if she is concerned for herself, but I do not think she needs to go so far. [Hide in plain sight, as it were.] But I will say that if these Purists want to cripple us, they will do whatever it takes and they will not care for who is hurt or killed. You are a man of war and I ( ... )

[John chuckles a little.] I suggested I could contact her if she was needed, so she could minimize her risk of being seen, but apparently that wasn't the right answer either. I'm not sure what the right answer was supposed to be. I don't know if she's planning to move into the clinic permanently and be available around the clock or just sneak in and out whenever she decides it's necessary.

[He's been pondering the security of the clinic for a while, so he's much more willing to talk about that.]Honestly I think the best thing would be to have some dedicated security guards at the clinic. Either visible or working in non-medical positions like the receptionist or the janitor. There are some combat-trained medical personnel like myself, but it's very hard to keep an eye on security when you're concentrating on a patient. Most of the staff change over monthly with the regular mission postings too. I intend to have mandatory security drills several times a month, but I can't expect to have a complete staff of battle-trained medics ( ... )

It would be much easier to have her work alone and be called upon as you see fit, but I cannot decide for her.

Having guards would be beneficial, but I would not have them be visible. If the Purists see merely in passing the guards, they will put more strength into the attacks. It would be better to have our enemies be caught off-guard and unaware of the guards. I will offer my assistance should you accept it, but I cannot guarantee that I can be there often. Should you decide to have guards, I can offer to train them myself.

I'll defer to the experts on the details. I worked in field hospitals when I was in the army so I'm aware of basic security precautions, but that's obviously not my area of expertise.

The problem may be finding the guards. Unless they manage to sign up for one of the positions, we can't really afford to pay them much. And the Guide doesn't always cooperate with job assignments.

I do not trust the Guides. They are unreliable at best. Perhaps Lady Une may be able suggest men and women from those in Preventer. I work for her as well so I may be able to inspect those who are willing to assist you. There may yet be a way for you and her to arrange something of benefit for the both of you, but I do not know if that is possible. There are other means of payment aside from coin.

Thank you. I'll definitely talk to her. I do know of at least two other doctors who have combat experience, so that's something.

I appreciate your suggestions. [There might be a slight emphasis on the word 'suggestions', but it wasn't intentional.] Can I contact you if I have questions?

Si, but if you wish to discuss in depth, I would rather discuss in person. These Guides are not meant for the things we speak of.
