It's not that I'm obsessed with your chest, it's only that I care. *G*

I did 15 training miles on Saturday and 18 miles yesterday. Today is an off day for walking (only strength training to build up my knees) and then I'm going for an hour and a half long massage. Ooooooh, bliss. Later, I'll hit the county courthouse for early voting. \o/ Seriously: if there's any way you can vote early, do. It's going to be a ( Read more... )

I always mean to check mine, but I can never figure out what lumps are supposed to be there, or only cysts (had fun with those one time!) or... what.

If you're a caffeine drinker, you'll most likely have some lumps. The idea is to get familiar with what they feel like RIGHT NOW, and check regularly to see if that changes. If any lumps feel painful, if you notice discoloration or something that looks like a rash (or if you pinch the nipple anything comes out and you're not nursing) you need to see your doctor for a more thorough exam.

Mostly, just get familiar with your girls so you'll know if anything changes. :)

I didn't feel right having a boobie icon when my kids could see it, and this I think is funnier anyway! Thanks.

It's not lumps you look for, honey; it's changes. When my baby sis was diagnosed in Feb 2007, she found something that hadn't been there before. She's fibrocystic; fibrocystic women need to know their boobs' geography very well; it's the only way you're going to find abnormalities. Have you had a mammogram yet? That should help you know where you're naturally lumpy and where you're not.

BTW, baby sis and I are both poster girls for self-exams and early detection. She was a Stage I; I was a Stage IIA (mine had sneaked into the sentinel nodes), so I'm in the 85% club. Not bad. I'm hoping attitude and lifestyle boost me a few percentage points.

No, I haven't had a mammogram yet. Having a solid idea I trust of where I start out lumpy might be nice - I had a minor meltdown when I was like 14-15 and found my first cyst, which wound up with getting an ultrasound (I think?) done. My whole impression of the experience is pretty much limited to cold goo and being unable to see the screen.

I have been trying to be better about checking mine - I know how dangerous the attitude of "Don't ask me, they're just... there." can be!

Good luck to both you and your baby sis! And thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.
