Wiiiiiii

One of Dave's friends in Waterloo was having a birthday party this weekend, so we invited him to come and stay with us. He got here last night, and brought his Wii with him.

Tyler and Heather had experienced the Wii already, as Madison had his here for a couple days before moving back to Calgary for the summer, but wasn't in the house at that point and missed it, so I've never played one. All I can say is good times. Really, it's pretty awesome. Dave started me off on some Wii Sports to get used to the Wiimote, and most of the games in there are a blast. He got me to do the Fitness test, which ranked me a pathetic 56 years old. In my defence, I had never played baseball on the system, and so got zero in the home run derby. This morning I did it again and scored 51, so a slight improvement, but this time I had no excuses. Alas.

We also played some Madden, which uses the Wiimote in some neat ways, and DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2, which was really impressive. The Wii version beats the pants off of any of the other versions in my opinion. I can't say I'm much of a DBZ fan nowadays but it's a nice bit of nostalgia. Dave is pretty awesome at it. I also got to see TMNT on the virtual console (originally a NES title) which I never played as a kid (but have been exposed to recently through the Angry Nintendo Nerd).

The biggest problem for us was that Dave only had one Wiimote and nunchuk. We decided that we would go out today to Conestoga Mall to pick up another one of each so that we could do multiplayer. As it turns out, this is easier said than done. Wiimotes were pretty common, but nunchuks? Forget about it. I was actually going to buy an entire Wii for myself if we came across one (such was the fun I had the night before playing it), but unsurprisingly everywhere was sold out. Saw plenty of PS3s, though. Anyway, we hopped on a bus to Future Shop - no nunchuks. Walked to Conestoga mall where we visited Zellers, The Source, and EB - no nunchuks. We walked over to Blockbuster - no nunchuks. We took the bus to a Rogers Video - no nunchuks.

Dejected, we returned home where I started making phone calls. HMV? Nope (although the poor saleswoman had no idea what I was talking about, and may have been looking for an actual nunchuk of some sort). Another Blockbuster? Still nothing. Finally, one more Blockbuster - holy crap, one left! We had them set it aside for us and grabbed a cab, and twenty minutes later we had finally scored a nunchuk and Wiimote.

Dayum. I can understand the system still selling out all over but the fact that such a crucial accessory was so hard to come by boggles my mind. I now figure that the city of Waterloo is sold out of nunchuks, and I am the bearer of the last one. Feels good.

Once I got home though I was alone in the house, so I won't have anyone to play with for a while. Tyler and Heather are at work (until 11 and 2 respectively) and Dave is at Pantless Jon's birthday party, which sounds pretty poorly planned and so no one knows when it might end. Shame. Once everyone is back, there will be multiplayer Wii and probably some light drunkenness. On our travels I bought a medium sized bottle of Crown Royal, which I've never had before. My dad is a big fan of the Crown & Coke though (it's just about all he ever drinks, which is a rare occurence anyway), which I'll be trying tonight. Heather bought a bunch of coolers (bah, girlydrinks) and we're well stocked with beer so a good time will be had by all. Except Tyler, who has sworn off drinking (again) after getting drunker than I've ever seen someone drunk last weekend (followed swiftly by being sicker than I've ever seen).

Yeah, last weekend when Tyler got drunk. I will spare you the details, but needless to say I should have earned some good karma by picking all of his puke-soaked kleenex out of the vomit-filled toilet so that it could flush. I hope never to repeat that experience.
