Wow, it's been a long time! Haven't had the patience or attention span to sit and write, recently, heh. I can't really be bothered to write about stuff before this weekend that happened that I didn't write about (like my trip to Waterloo last weekend, which was awesome - enough said). So, instead I'll talk about this weekend and go from there ;)
Yesterday I actually set my alarm for 10:30 AM, forcing myself up instead of sleeping all day. I went to bed around 1, which gave me a decent amount of sleep, anyway. My motivation was that I planned to bus it to Town Centre for a bit of... potential shopping (I couldn't think of any better way to put it, heh).
Basically, I've been playing PlayStation 2 a fair bit recently. I didn't have it with me at school, so I didn't really touch it at all for the school term. I got a couple of games for Christmas: Gran Turismo 4 (the greatest racing game ever as far as I'm concerned, haha) and Suikoden Tactics (a strategy RPG that spins off from the traditional RPG Suikoden IV. I've played and beaten both III and IV, so it seemed only natural to get Tactics). I've been playing both pretty regularly, although recently I've been focusing on Tactics.
I made a general vow to try and beat whatever RPG-type game I'm playing before buying a new one. This helps stop games from piling up, and gives me motivation to actually finish games. I say RPG-type games, because something like Gran Turismo 4 can never truly be beaten - I suppose completing everything in the game would be beating it, but that would take far more dedication and, in fact, skill, than I could ever possess.
Anyway, I'm nearing the end of Suikoden Tactics at about the 32 hour mark so far. It's a great companion to IV, whose storyline started shrouded in mystery... and stayed that way for the whole game :/ Luckily Tactics actually explains what was happening behind the scenes in Tactics, being set a few years in the future, as well as having a storyline of its own. And a lot of the old characters are back, which is awesome :P
So, being near the end, I started looking for a new RPG to get. (Also, I was inspired by Madison, who last week showed me a couple of RPGs that he's been playing recently. Madison has definitely not made a vow like mine - he had bought 2 RPGs in as many weeks, for a total of 3 unbeaten ones :/ ). Madison showed me Grandia III, which looked amazingly awesome, and Tales Of Legendia, which looked... significantly less so. However, in looking at stuff released recently, a game called Magna Carta: Tears Of Blood caught my eye. It supposedly has a complex storyline and a somewhat unconventional battle system, and the graphics look great. Only problem is that it was released last October or something and seemed like it may be out of print already. Which finally brings me back to "potential shopping". I was going to Town Centre to check all the places that sell video games to see if they had it. That was Part A of the mission. Part B was to resist buying another game if they didn't have it ;p
I went to EBGames (formerly Electronics Boutique), Starstruck and Wal-Mart, and none of them had it. I asked at EB (since they have tons of stuff hidden away usually) but they didn't have it in - and it's officially been discontinued. I gave Grandia III a sad, grovelling look, sighing "another day" before walking out.
I went to HMV because, like the consumer whore that I am, I had a backup plan if I couldn't get Magna Carta without buying another game and feeling guilty. There was a CD that I noticed when I was there with
brainbin two weeks ago by Winter Of Apokalypse for the very reasonable $18.99 which I planned to snatch up - but of course, now it's $24.99 and thoroughly in ripoff territory, so I left completely emptyhanded. I even took the bus to Deja Vu Discs at Kennedy Commons, checking their used metal CDs and PS2 games, and still nothing. Wondering what was wrong with me, I headed home and promptly ordered Magna Carta online from Amazon.ca, where they said they had it in stock (which they did - it's going to ship tomorrow, YAY! Take THAT out of printness!).
That was all the excitement Saturday had to offer. Well, I did go to dinner at Eastside Mario's with my dad and grandma. The Chicken Cacciatore Skilletini is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten, just FYI. Had it this time and last time. Two big thumbs up.
Today I dragged my dad to see the documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey with me. It's only playing at Kennedy Commons and the Carlton downtown, and at Kennedy Commons it's only playing at 9:55 PM (my dad: "But if we go then it will be full of headbangers!"). So we went for the earliest showing at the Carlton, 1:50 PM. Not too many people there (unsurprisingly), although the area seems to be a bit of a home for the drug-addled (and a few extremely spaced people wandered in and out during the doc). It was pretty entertaining. The interviews were good and fun, the music was obviously amazing ( :P ), but I really didn't learn anything. It was mostly for those who weren't already completely immersed in the metal subculture, which means I was sort of out of luck, haha. My dad thought it was okay too, although he still doesn't like any music with non-melodic vocals. It did pique his interest in some metal bands which I have albums by though, like Metallica, Megadeth and Dio.
Other than that, there was a lot of Suikoden Tactics playing as I anticipate the arrival of Magna Carta - possibly as early as Tuesday. I'll probably do another hour or two before bed - there are a few sidequests I want to do before fighting the last couple of storyline battles :>
I promised
brainbin I'd talk about Alchemist - "Embryonics", and I will soon. It's such a dense listening experience that organizing thoughts about it as a whole is extremely taxing, lol.
Well, goodnight all, and take it easy!
