Well, the good news is that I didn't flunk the cataloging exam. The bad news is that I still have 1 assignment, 1 exam and 1 paper to go in the class. Then I shall be free! and hopefully will have purged any desire to become a cataloger from my system.
Finished reading two books recently: The Virgin's Lover by Phillipa Gregory and The Swallows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra. I was sort of psyched up for the Gregory book, as it was about one of Elizabeth I's suitors, but the thing about writing historical fiction is that everyone pretty much knows how it will end, and you can't really do much with your characters without losing the historical accuracy. I was rather disappointed with it. The Swallows book didn't start out very promising, but got better about halfway through. Kind of along the lines of Coetzee, if you like that sort of novel.
I've been trying to get into the holiday spirit. I finished my Christmas cards the other night (while watching Portrait of a Lady) and went to the big choral concert at Luther Memorial today. In spite of the snow, though, it's been so hard to feel like it's close to Christmas time. Maybe once I start buying gifts.
