I'll keep that in mind for the next time I'm trying to take down someone and my only advantage is surprise.

When your only advantage is surprise, you need to make more advantages.

Or make the surprise big enough not to let them get up from it. What you did might yet take him down, but chances are it'll hit you first and hardest.
