Infected Thumb

Jul 23, 2005 09:44

Last week, I was an idiot and pulled off a hangnail on my right thumb. Knew it wasn't a good idea when I was doing it, but oh well.

This week, its turned into a lovely infection, getting bad about Tuesday and has been getting worse since. You'd be amazed how many things require use of the right thumb (at least for right-handers). Have some shooting pain anytime you touch something with it, and you'll learn really quick.

I give in and schedule a Doctor's appt - 4:30 on Friday. I show up 15 minutes early since I've not been in there in a couple of years. The door is locked. I call the office, it closed at 3:00 on Friday. WTF? Who schedules an appointment for an hour at which they're closed? Never got a call from them or anything.

I go to an emergency care clinic, which is mostly a bunch of waiting (~2 hrs) followed by 3 minutes of exam in which the doctor says its infected (duh) and writes a scrip for Lodine (for pain) and Cleocin HCL (antibiotic), and says to come back on Sunday, possibly to drain it. As far as I can tell, Lodine (Etodolac 500mg) doesn't do any good for me - its more painful than ever. Hopefully the Cleocin is doing something more.

Constant throbbing pain sucks.
