my day at the barn.

So my day began with a trip to barn to milk at 3 am, quite cold at that hour I might add. However, chasing runaway calves around really warms you up. So instead of the job taking 2.5 hours, I was there for almost 4 hours. But hey, I am not complaining. Then I went back to work around 1 and learned how to drive the tractor. Yes, I, Jessica Davis, now know how to drive a tractor, well sort of. I need some more practice. But I did learn about grain ratios and all of that lovely stuff. Then, I had the chance to watch a surgery on one of the cows, named Sassy. She had a displaced abomasum (true stomach, they have four compartments) and they had to cut into her and drain all of the air out and move the stomach around and sew it all back up. She was soo good, just stood there like a lady. Then, I sat around and chatted with my coworkers, really just listening to them tell stories and watching them drink beer, kind of odd. I also witnessed an artificial insemination of a cow and played with my baby Eden, who is the most wonderful cow in the entire world and when they retire her from milking and baby making I am buying her and keeping her with me :) So sorry to make this entry one of those, this is what I did today, but at least its interesting, right? I think so. I love my cows so much, they are my lovies. Home tomorrow after milking in the afternoon, very excited to see everyone.
