Good For The Gander

Mar 26, 2009 23:21

Last night Lor and I went out on a date. We dropped the kids off at mom's around 5:30, made the 5:45 train to Jerusalem, had a scheduled meeting somewhere (the official reason for the trip in), and then had dinner at the mall. After we browsed for a bit and took the 9:45 train back. Our evening was finished by 10:30 and it was full and awesome.

The real reason for this post though was the dinner. We tried the grill place (I think it was called HaPetilah) opposite Korus Sin. It's quite a sparse menu. There's a small appetizer section, drinks, deserts, and 3 choices of main course.

All meals come with a selection of pita and salads, and a choice of side (mashed potatoes, fries, majdera (rice with lentils n' stuff), rice

Business Meal I (49 shek)
Two skewers from your choice of: Pargiot, shishlik in lemon garlic sauce, ... others I can't remember. (Or shnitzel or grilled breast somethings)

Meal II (69 Shek)
Two skewers from your choice of: Goose breast, Steak, Lamb Fat
OR fish of some sort

Meal III (89 Shek)
Steak or Lamb Ribs

First things first. Lamb Fat? On a skewer? Really? That's food? Surely they mean fatty chunks of meat. I can get behind that I do love fatty meat, it's the tastiest part of the meat. I've even made grivens (fried chicken skin) at some point in my life.
"It's fatty meat, right?"
"No, it's just fat."
"Really? That's food?"
"Some people like it." *shrug*
Our waiter obviously did not agree with the people who choose to eat that.

Well that left my choices obvious. We got a 1 and 2 to split. Pargiot, Shishlik, Steak, Goose breast. We also split fries and majdera.

The goose was a fun experiment, I've never tried it before. I'm not crazy about turkey, but I do love duck (Lor doesn't).

The goose was Out Of This World. AMAZINGLY GOOD. Holy cow, I mean bird, it was a culinary experience. I had to put down my cutlery and just sit and pay full attention to the delight in my mouth. It was like a cross between turkey and duck. It was how I wish turkey would taste. Lorien gushed over it too. All the food was actually very good, but the goose was just... words fail me.

I do wish to make special note of the majdera as well. Highly highly recommended. It was perfect and delicious, I've never had rice this good before.

You know how sometimes after you eat out, you're not really satisfied? It didn't live up to your expectations, or you overate and feel sick, or the MSG headache. Just a meh experience and not really worth the cost of eating out? This was a refreshing change from all the.

We ate. We were satisfied. We didn't feel rotten afterwards. I was so happy after my meal at having a great eating experience, I was just gushing. This sort of thing warranted, nay, demanded blogging.
