adding a post script:
certain things trigger vivid memories in me very strongly, one of the main ones being music. Some songs can put me right back in a moment from 10 years ago like I'm right there again, feeling the same thing, thinking the same thought, smelling the same smells (smell is another sense that triggers very strong memories and emotions for me.) The other night at R's house, I put on an old album that held very concrete associations for me and decided it would be nice to create new memories. One song off the album is in heavy rotation at work, I thought it would be nice to have something beautiful and new come into my head when it played, instead of the same memory it's brought on since I was thirteen.
Speaking of sense association, I'm wearing R's hoodie, it smells very strongly of her. I gave her mine to take on her trip, I like the idea that my favorite hoodie will have been to a state that I haven't been to.
