CHARACTER NAME: Noi.
FANDOM: Dorohedoro.
CANON: Curse 72: Mosh Pit, right before she and her partner Shin face the Cross-Eye gang.
WHAT THEY LOST: Noi has forgotten about her cousin, En. This particular magic user raised her and trained her to hone her magic skills from childhood, and employed her since said youth. In adulthood, Noi is a cleaner (hitwoman) for him, and she worked for the rest of the family doing tasks of varying morality for him-- though really, the vast majority of it is her beating up those who cause trouble for him.
This affects her because it is because of working for En has allowed her to not only grow strong, but to also meet all those she holds dear. If it weren't for En's inclinations, she would not have met her partner, nor would she have found herself in all the adventures of the series. She would remember working for a powerful magic user, but not know that it is her cousin or any discerning details of him. It would all be vague, if anything at all.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: At first glance, Noi is a frightening behemoth of raw power and muscle... and really, that is very much true. After all, how else can one describe someone who has no reservations in killing those who dare stand in her way or piss her off to considerable extent? It's not like she doesn't enjoy it, considering the fact that she and her partner Shin tend to make a game of how many corpses they are able to rack up while on a "cleaning job" for their employer, En.
Mask equipped no matter the reason for the outing, it is hard to tell whether or not Noi is simply catering to her blood lust or that she genuinely takes her job that seriously. It is also hard to tell that this woman is... well, actually a woman because of it. Many enemies see such a raw thirst for carnage as something masculine and something overwhelmingly so.
Regardless of that aspect of her personality, however, the hard-hitting Noi is actually very much feminine and essentially a sweetheart when she is off the job. If she is not trying on fashionable garments or attempting to walk in high heels or even going so far as to study magic in the library, she is seen stuffing her face in the most enthusiastic of ways. She sure does like her food, and she is very much a connoisseur, even making her meals a game with her partner in the same vein as they would their murders out on the field.
Now, there seems to be a lot of focus on Noi and violence. The environment she has grown up in is very much a violent society, as her kind are at constant conflict with the humans in the world attached to theirs. In spite of this, however, Noi is not jaded by it all, she is instead something of a sentimental person, one who loyal to her friends first and foremost. She is far from a heartless killer, something that is shown more than a few times throughout the series. If anything, she is aligned within neutrality, aiming for the greater good, even if it does take something of a bloody turn.
An example of this is the reason she is so close to her partner, Shin. When they met, she went so far as to heal his hands, even when he wronged her cousin by stealing from him. When he repaid her for her kindness by throwing himself in the way of something meant to kill her, she threw aside a year's worth of magic fasting in order to rescue him from death. This is a great example, as the magic fasting was part of training that was meant to enable her to become a devil, the highest regarded members of the magic users' society. She threw that all away to help him, and did not think twice about it, nor has she ever regretted it. This is likely the greatest reason that Shin is the most important person to Noi.
If a person wants to say that she is a softie underneath all that intimidating vigor, you could very well be right. In conversation, Noi is perky and even a little bubbly, with an interesting amount of spunk and attitude. As I have mentioned before, she is very much a feminine woman who enjoys having fun and helping out whenever she can. When she is away from her responsibilities, she has a tendency to act as she will and goes along with anything Shin feels they should do together. She even gets flustered when she is faced with escorts in the more shadier spots that her people frequent, still acting polite as she blushes beneath that mask of hers!
ABILITIES: Noi is a magic user! In her world, there are magic users and humans. They are identical in biology, aside from a small tumor in the magic users' bodies that allow them to conjure and use magic. This will be explained briefly later*.
Noi's magic is very unique and rare. In spite of her aggression and unstoppable nature in battle, her magic is not offensive whatsoever. In fact, it is healing magic that focuses on regenerative qualities to mend flesh and bone, no matter how mangled it may look or how seemingly irreversible the damage may be. This happens in the form of smoke spilling out from her lips. It is because of this she can heal others with her reserves of magic.
Due to this same magic running through her veins, Noi is practically unstoppable in battle because she can very much use these regenerative qualities in battle. Once she takes a hit, it mends in mere moments, and she is as good as new, ready and raring to take more hits (if she doesn't punch through her enemies first)! An example of how effective these abilities are is a moment where she took a bullet face first to shield her partner and got up a few moments afterward, with only blood running down her face where the bullet entered.
Magic aside, this woman is pretty much a tank with one hell of a fighting style. She can take as many hits as she wants and dish out punches and kicks with some crazy force. With a karate chop, she is able to slice another magic user cleanly in half, and with a firm kick, she can have her foot shoot through the torso of another. Needless to say, she is skilled in brawling, even if she has no real style other than pounding people into big, bloody pulps and ooey gooey messes.
* Oh yes. If there is a question in regards to how to kill or stop her? All magic users have this devil-shaped tumor somewhere in their bodies that is the source of their magic. If that tumor is incapacitated, the magic user is incapacitated. If the tumor is destroyed... that magic user dies. You just need to find the location of said tumor!
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Noi felt a small amount of warmth fill her cheeks when she sat down on the plush couch furnishing the lavish room. The girls were looking at her again, weren't they. She didn't want to turn her head and look, lest she become more flustered than she already was. She had a image to keep up after all!
But curiosity got the best of her, and the second Noi moved to turn her head, all she caught sight of was a sultry grin and a low cut top cut far too low for even her own liking-- oh no! Was that girl looking at her? Was she really coming toward her?
When her questions were answered with the soft touch of bare skin pressing up against the leather of her jacket, all Noi could do was press a free hand against the opposite side of her face. If only it wasn't bad form to take off her mask! She was sure these girls would think twice about rubbing up against a fellow lady, right?
Right?
A sigh escaped Noi's lips as she looked down, trying to ignore the escort at her side. The things she went through to show consideration to her friends! Honestly! How long did it take Ebisu to bring them their drinks? And where was Fujita with their usual standard greetings? And... Wait, did that other woman run her hand up Shin's thigh?
For many reasons, Noi found herself clenching her fists, the leather making a distinct sound as she rolled her eyes back, looking up at the ceiling. She needed to calm down! This wasn't the worst of all places, after all, and the food was great. Maybe she would find herself thinking about the food they would soon be stuffing their faces with instead of all this anxiety.
Oh, yes. She knew there was a reason she braved this place in spite of all the awkward! How could she ever forget?
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Owaah, I see them, I see them! Shitheads sighted!
[There's a pause, and things... aren't quite as they seem. This isn't the headquarters she and her partner have infiltrated, after all.] H-huh? Where did they... Where did those cross-eyed freaks go?
Is this some kind of trick? [Huff.]
Ugh! I am really getting tired of these stupid tricks, you know! You dumb fucking asswipes get back here so I can start cracking your skulls in two! Won't that be fun?
Wait a second... [There's a pause as she looks around.] Senpai? Where...
What did you bastards do with senpai?!
INTENT: You know what Paradisa needs, in my opinion? More healers. Noi heals, and she is damn good at it! I also think it would be fun, given the right CR, a display of such different morals hitting the castle. After all, killing and such doesn't mean a whole lot to her peers... And someone from a race of devil worshippers will prove to be fun, I think.
