Mark Waid on the Geoff Johns Superman reboot

Interview by Comic Book Resources.

Brian Cronin: “When asked how long you expected your Superman: Birthright would remain in continuity, you replied, “What time is it now?” Do you have any feelings you wish to express about Geoff Johns’ Superman: Secret Origin, which will essentially render void your version of Superman’s beginnings?”
Brian Cronin: That last one was a fairly common question, asking what your take on Johns’ Secret Origin was, which I found kinda odd - “How do you feel that they’re re-doing the origin you created?” “I think it’s AWEsome!”

Mark Waid: “Dear Mark: How do you feel about the fact that Geoff Johns is dating your ex?”

Hahaha.  Oo nga naman. :p

I admit, I'm one of those guys that initially went: "So what happens to the Byrne reboot?"  But as I said before, I LOVED "Birthright."  Yes, even the Super-sideburns (I asked Leinil about that and he chuckled, "Wala, para may Dawson's Creek look."  LOL).  But facial hair aside, Birthright was an awesome way to tie the Byrne run, "Smallville," and the movies together.  And yes, I liked the fact that Clark Kent had "soul vision," and that he was a vegetarian because of it (dead people/animals lose their "aura", and always depresses Clark).

Just the same I'm still equally excited by Johns-Frank retelling.  And how he's going to use Superboy (which frankly, I never liked).  "Smallville" is proof that the Byrne-Waid interpretation of Clark's youth is much more interesting...though of course no Superboy means no Legion of Superheroes, which was the Great Post-Crisis Conundrum.

More on Waid's interview here.
