Yesterday was one of the best birthdays I've ever had in my life.
It really started Thursday night, where my good friends Chris and Waymond took me out to dinner at Golden Corral, which is always a tasty treat and was free meal #1.
The next morning I got to work and, despite facing many 'happy 40th birthday' comments, which were then changed to 'happy 30th' and 'happy 29th' birthday (I'm 28, people!) but there were both bagels and doughnuts. [Free meal #2.]
The day before had been a double milestone day for my company, so most of the people there were in a good mood anyways. Work still got done, but it was definitely a good, fun mood around the office.
Lunchtime took us to the Pizza Hut, with about seven of us there. Good time, and my friend Andy (for those who remember, AegisFlash) paid for lunch (#3). Yay!
Then comes the evening.. and I honestly had suspected that the "game night" would become a surprise party but was prepared for the possibility that it was, in fact, just a game night. I was not disappointed - a good two dozen of my friends threw me an awesome party (which still was also a game night.) I got pizza (#4), cake, and Carcassonne! (I got the main game and three expansions.) I also got a gift card for a comic book / games store. Woot!
Then.. the ice storm hit. I won't lie - it was scary. Giant tree limbs started to crash to the ground all around the house. Power quickly went out, and we later spotted the power line down right in front of the house. As the house we were having the party at was on the northwest side of town, and I live on the south side, I decided not to risk the drive home at night - so I stayed the night. It was a fun time, as there were five of us (including the two house owners) who stayed.
One of the girls (Sarah) had to go to work in the morning, but she came back an hour later with news that power was out where she worked, but she brought doughnuts (#5!) After that, Sarah's twin sister Rebecca had to go to work, but the rest of us hung out / napped until 2pm. That's right - my birthday party lasted 18 hours!
