Valkyria Chronicles Is Great!
And...it feels weird to play it because I'm doing it without a walkthrough. This means my team gets pummeled a lot but I've actually managed to clear most levels okay. EXCEPT THIS ONE. See, we're in this forest and I'm a fool and sent all my weaker scouts all over the place and then shocktroopers arrived and killed this one guy I don't like and--wait, lemme explain. This game is awesome because each of your bunches of units have names and personalities and stuff! Like in Fire Emblem! I LOVE THAT KIND OF STUFF! So, for example, I have this dude named Noce...something (I do not love him yet so I forget) and he's a Scout and in love with the main guy Welkin Gunther's probably-gonna-be-girlfriend, Alicia Melchiott (who is awesome and a baker) and he likes writing her songs and stuff and some of his characteristics are stuff like Country Bred and so on, so he's good for this kind of mission in the forest, I think. BUT. He is also a Welkin Hater or something. Like, if he is near Welkin, his stats drop. Now, me and Welkin, we hang and we appreciate each other, so I'm all "Gross, Noce. You are not coming along" (plus, I kind of like Welkin x Alicia).
And everyone has stuff like that! I have a looot of characters I like but my favorite right now is this Engineer kid named Homer Peron whose characteristics are Neat Freak ("worries about dirt stains lead to distraction and a decrease in accuracy"), Frail Body ("having less than half AP makes him feel totally exhausted, leading to decreased defense"), Lonely ("loneliness soon sets in when no allies are nearby, leading to decreased evasion ability"), and Masochist ("having less than half HP makes them inexplicably happy, granting a boost in defense"). I think he's fascinating somehow. And then this neat Scout girl Aika Thompson is actually from Skies of Arcadia! And she has...Pollen Allergy. Oh. Why didn't I catch that? >.< She gets a steady drain on HP when standing near too much plant life and, um...we're in a forest. -_-;
...Oh. Both Alicia AND Noce got shot and died. It's bad because if you don't call the Medic in time to have them be safely evacuated, they die forever. T_T I don't want my peoples to die forever. I think I will restart this battle. It's going pretty badly.
