It was to be expected. I am loving Pasión. So far, Camila (the main character) seems pretty ok. I have no qualms with her (telenovela heroines are notorious for being doormats and making stupid choices). I bet the fact that Carla Estrada is the producer is the reason. Anyway, I love the relationship between her, Jimena, Claudio, and Marcelo Córdoba's character (I LOVE YOU MARCELO CÓRDOBA). They're all friends now! So adorable!
CAST
Camila: Main girl. Gonna marry Santiago.
Santiago: Camila's hot fiance. Was in jail for some reason and recently released.
Don Jorge: Nasty lord of the town who sleeps with many women. Has one daughter named Ursula whom he is forcing to marry so he can have a male grandchild.
Don Timoteo: Rich, cranky old man that stole his older brother Pedro's fortune. Has a blind daughter named Lisabeta. Hates his nephew Ricardo.
Lisabeta: Timoteo's blind daughter. Raised by her aunt, Francisca. Hates Camila. In love with her cousin Ricardo (I think it's that whole he's-the-only-man-who-cares-about-me thing).
Francisca: Timoteo's old maid younger sister. Apparently, her never marrying was her older brother Pedro's fault. Raised Lisabeta. Hates Camila.
Pedro: Rich guy who was mean and is now dead. Had a son named Ricardo. Older brother of Timoteo and Francisca.
Ricardo: Pedro's son. Was in jail (I think?). Currently a pirate. Occasionally writes letters to Lisabeta and Francisca.
Ascanio: Timoteo's servant. Really good-looking. He was sent to jail for killing a guy who messed with his sister. Timoteo bought him from the jail somehow. Played by the great Marcelo Córdoba.
Jimena: Some poor girl Camila meets and buys from her owners. Chatty and lively.
Claudio: Another poor slave that Camila meets and buys.
Rita: Camila's older sister who marries Santiago while Camila is missing. Allegedly sweet as an angel (I haven't seen her yet). Raised Camila after her mother died.
Vasco: Camila's older brother. A widower. Currently sleeping with Ursula.
Ursula: Don Jorge's only daughter. Currently being forced to marry and sleeping with Vasco.
Sofía: Ursula's mother and Don Jorge's wife. She feels more at ease hanging out with the regular people of the town instead of the rich people. Secretly in love with Camila's dad. Played by the fabulous Mariana Karr.
So, basically, Camila is gonna marry Santiago but Don Jorge tries to exercise his power as Lord of the Whole Town or whatever and sleep with her first. She somehow gets out of that but gets sold to Don Timoteo in Colombia or something. Don Timoteo wants her as his wife so he can have a son cause he hates the fact that he only has a blind daughter. Don Timoteo's mean daughter Lisabeta and her aunt Francisca hate Camila, and so they try to help her escape, but the plan is foiled. Don Timoteo tells Camila she'll be free the day he dies. Which he does. Before he can touch Camila. Convenient!
Anyway, Don Timoteo leaves Camila his whole fortune (which he actually stole from his brother Pedro somehow, it seems) and leaves Lisabeta and Francisca with nothing but a grody old ranch. They are understandably pissed off and all like "OH NO HE DIDN'" and the will-reading man is like "OH YES HE DID." Camila tries to leave them some money but Don Timoteo was one step ahead of her. If Camila tries to give them a cent, the whole fortune will go to some mason brothers or something and Camila will be a slave. So no money for Lisabeta and Francisca.
Camila then goes around buying her poor slave people friends (Jimena and Claudio) she met during this time and they become her posse. She also takes with her Don Timoteo's handsome servant man, Ascanio, who is loyal to her. They become the Fantastic Four. But without powers. Camila's all jazzed and happy about going back to Mexico to reunite with her beloved Santiago and (FINALLY) get married, but it ain't gonna happen because *GASP* he's already married! To her SISTER, Rita, no less!
Needless to say, Camila is severely bummed out. What will she do about all of these shenanigans? We will find out tomorrow!
Other Observations:
1. I still love Mariana Karr's croaky, raspy voice.
2. HOLY CRAP! Gaby Rivero aka la Maestra Ximena from Carrusel is in this show too!! o.o It's a SIGN!!
3. The promo poster of this show looks like a really sleazy romance novel. ^_^;
4. I think I like Carla Estrada's telenovelas because her stuff always seem to have villains that will have SOME humanity to them and you can see why they turned out that way. You can genuinely see why Lisabeta and Francisca are messed up.
5. I don't care how hot people say Sebastián Rulli is. I still like
Marcelo Córdoba the best. *_*
