I SAAAAW IT~!
I SAAAAW IT~! I SAW IT! I SAW IT! EVERYONE, GO SEE IT NOW! NOW! NOOOW!
Ok, ok, I will put it behind an LJ cut... so if you haven't seen the Lemony Snicket movie and are planning to and don't want to be spoiled... don't look!
OK! IT WAS NEAAAAT! A lot of people seem to be complaining about them cutting a lot of stuff in the books out and adding a lot of stuff in but...I thought it was AWESOME. And I totally understand why they'd do that. Obviously they CAN'T put everything in because there's not enough space, and some of the stuff people want in there is cool but...not necessary for the movie.
And as for the additions, well... I see it this way. A lot of people haven't read the books and AREN'T going to read the books even if they see the movie and like it, be it because they're busy or just don't want to or whatever. This movie is geared, I imagine, towards EVERYONE, not just the book readers, so they have to explain certain things about the mysteries and the plot wherever they can. Some people are pitying poor Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) because his books were "ruined" with this movie, but I imagine he knew and even okayed all of this. I mean, originally, he was going to write the screenplay and he did, but it wasn't right or something (I imagine he probably had no experience writing screenplays) and another person did it...but I imagine he still got to okay the screenplay and decide what couldn't be put in and stuff. He probably did have a say in it and all.
In fact, I think it's funny because I remember reading an interview a loooong time ago in which he said he'd actually like the movie to be COMPLETELY new. Like not based in any of the books at all, but just like a new adventure or something. Maybe I'm totally off, but it seems like the sort of thing he would do (he's a funky weird guy, but cool, I guess).
SO ANYWAY, I was completely happy with it. I only wish it would have been longer. But I loved it. My favorites were...
1. The actors (they did REALLY well. EVERYONE. Everyone was peeeerfect)
2. The costumes (I LOVED THEM. I LOVED THEM A LOT. I want Violet's clothes and the white faced women's)
3. The soundtrack (I WANT IT A LOT. It was COOL!)
4. The ending credits animation (AWESOME!! Everyone! If you go see it, STAY AND WATCH THE CREDITS)
Ok, and now I have a gross confession. I...I thought...the kids who played Klaus and Violet were cute together. In this one scene, I wanted them to kiss. But then I remembered they were siblings in the movie and grossed myself out. So kids, please date in real life. Or make another movie where you are in love. For me? *is gross* Ok, I'm done.
And...and... It just...looked really cool. *_* I wanna see it again! I wanna see it! I wanna see it 9 times!
