Throughout the week I always have intentions of coming in and writing a little recap and then I end up distracted and it doesn't get done. I will say though, I am LOVING that so many friends of mine are active bloggers now. And that I have a handful of new people to interact with as well as random bloggers on different host sites I enjoy reading. I've been in the online journal game since late 2000 and have never really branched out from the site I'm using at the time (I've had 3 long-term blog homes). There's SO many interesting people doing very creative things. And the cool thing about popular blogs? Giveaways! I'll have to let you know if I ever win anything and get myself free advertisement somewhere. Depending on the interest level, I may have a link party to share my finds. :) I already emailed a huge list to Amanda a couple weeks ago.
So what's been happening since my last update?
Did I write that I'm going to see the Foo Fighters in September? I don't think I did? Erm. Audra called me one day last week with a, "Guess what!!!" With her...there's no telling what random news she has. And it had to be something REALLY exciting for her to call me. She tells me Josh called her to say the Foo Fighters were gonna be in KC. We vowed like 2 summers ago that we'd go together if they came anywhere near here on tour. We hashed out a little about who could/would purchase tickets and agreed on a price range. I immediately texted Stiles but it's one of those things where it's like, "Hey we're doing this" more than a "You wanna do this?" LOL. He actually had a presale password that he e-mailed me (was that a mistake, pf? lol) and I made the executive decision to buy the dang tickets for the group instead of going back and forth with the 3 of them trying to figure out who would do it, and when. Stiles later informed me that he knew about the show and it would've been a birthday gift. I assume he has (or is planning to) give Audra some crap for alerting me to this concert. Though I'm 99% sure I would've discovered it anyway, because I had a friend who saw them in Tulsa the night before. Looking into that tour was on my mind. Probably. *cough* Finally, after 4 years, it's getting difficult for him to surprise me. MWAHAHAHA!!!
I wrote about this bit on Tumblr but apparently I didn't x-post here so whatever. Sunday night Sarah (and her husband) had myself and Angel over for an authentic German dinner! An added bonus is that it was the first time I've ever had any of Sarah's cooking. German food is not at all as scary as the spelling makes it look. The girls hung out and chit-chatted for hours. I don't know if I've ever written much about Sarah here, but she's a unique one. The youngest of anyone I consider a good friend, clocking in at a whopping 19 years old (for another couple weeks) but the attitude and knowledge of someone much older. I've known her for years but only recently have had the chance to know her better. It was a good night.
Holy crap, there was a devastating tornado outbreak on Sunday. It leveled 1/3 of the city of Joplin Missouri. The news coverage and posts online were constant. I don't think I saw or read anything else for 2 whole days afterward. The blog posts of people who were scared to death about family members had me in tears. I left several strangers messages of support. The pictures of the strength of the tornado are absolutely terrifying. I've seen a chair embedded into a concrete wall, a long, large splinter of wood skewered through a curb. I just read a post that a receipt from a tire store in Joplin was found 525 miles away in freakin INDIANA. That's how widespread and strong this outbreak of storms was. On Tumblr I found the story of a kid named Will who had literally just graduated from high school. He and his father were driving home from the ceremony when the tornado hit. He was most likely sucked from the sunroof. His father was found immediately and is alive and on his way to being well. Will has been missing ever since. They found his graduation cap a couple days ago. The Tumblr post was a link to a "Help Find Will Norton" facebook page set up by his Aunt. At the time, around 200 people had "liked" it. Their story aired on AC360 on Monday night. I've watched the page grow by the tens of thousands every day since then. Searching his name uncovered his twitter, and youtube channel, he's funny. He's got big dreams. I hope that he's somehow one of the many John Doe's alive and stable in one of the countless hospitals treating tornado victims. I don't know this kid, but I'm dying for him to be back with his family. It's been nearly a week now.
This week I had a first. I got a summons from the county. That's right people: JURY DUTY. It's an order to appear, June 13th. I turned in a copy to my supervisor at work but have yet to see/speak to her about it. Everyone has told me I'll be fully excused for the first day, but after that I'm unsure what I'm supposed to do. Blah! It drives me crazy not to have a game plan right away.
Yesterday I went back to Paint the Towne! Angel wanted to go for her birthday, but nothing was appealing in April. We got really lucky to get reservations for last night's class, because it was full the same day it was posted online for signups. We met up at Louie's Bar & Grill for dinner. Not as impressed as I hoped to be, but whatever. Now I can cross it off my list of places to try. I think it was all of about 10 minutes into painting when Angel said, "I love this place!" We had table-mates, of course. The big group of ladies who made up the bulk of the class were super friendly. Even the K-State fan! ;) That's exactly how it's been all three times I've taken a class. Checked out the calendar for next month and immediately had Jessie (the owner) sign us up for the painting on June 11th. And then we gave some friends a heads up, and it looks like we'll have a little group of our own. It's gonna be fun!
I'm SO looking forward to tomorrow after work. Audra and I are going to start pinata construction. This will be our 3rd year in a row and by far the most difficult design. Wish us luck!
Alright. Time to head to bed. Goodnight, friends!
