Let me share a little store with you...

One evening, the prickly captain of a battleship was awakened by an anxious ensign. The captain barks, “What the hell is going on?” And the nervous ensign hurriedly explains that there is a smaller boat directly in their path. The captain briskly gives an order to tell the other boat to change course but the panicky ensign swiftly ensures that they have already tried and it is refusing to move aside. So the now irritated captain get’s out of bed and goes to the bridge. He gets on the microphone and crankily says, “Unidentified boat, change course, turn 20 degrees to starboard.” The smaller boat patiently answers back, “Unidentified battleship, you change course, turn 20 degrees to port.” The aggravated captain turns and incredulously asks his crew, “Who does this joker thing he is, messing with a battleship?” So the livid captain returns to the microphone and bellows, “Unidentified boat, turn 20 degrees starboard! I am Captain Alexander Sheppard the XVI of the battleship Xerxes flag ship of the Seventh Fleet and I am giving you an order!” And the smaller boat patiently answers back, “Xerxes, change course, turn 20 degrees to port. This is Seaman John Smith of the lighthouse and I am giving you an order.”

Sometimes reality is more important than our own sense of self-importance.
