I was out eating an early dinner/late lunch, and reading in the close by pizzeria. I was minding my own business, listening to my iPod when a stern looking woman pokes my shoulder. I take my headphones off, and pause Sono Adanti and say politely, "Yes?"
Stern woman: You should be ashamed of yourself! How dare you read support pedophilia and bondage?
Me: Wha?
(Luckily, there was only us and the waiters in there)
Stern woman: *points at my book* It's disgusting for you to read such porn in public!
Me: It's...not porn...it's early nineteenth century Italian literature...
Woman: Call it want you want, you should be ashamed!
And then...she left.
I was not reading pedophilia bondage porn, I was reading Separations, two novels by Massimo Bontemplli--and you know what she freaked over? This cover:
Oh, town, how I loathe you.
