So one of the forums I visit from time to time has a thread for scary stories since it's around Hallowe'en. I thought I'd share mine here.
There was a house, built in the 1920s that had been abandoned for years--ever since the daughter of the man who had lived there mysteriously disappeared. She had been a lovely girl, with hair the colour of burnished wood and pink lips that needed no gloss or paint.
No one knew where the man came from, though there were rumours that claimed just about every place on earth and hell as his origins, but no one denied that he made the economy in the small town skyrocket.
The other children at the local school were terrified of the girl. They said she read futures, not by cards or palms, but by looking into people's eyes with her deep grey ones. Everyone always said the same thing, after she set that unsettling gaze on them. "The eyes were dead, but haunted." They called her names, witch, freak, voodoo mama.
And then one day, she was just gone, not a hide nor hair of her ever seen. Her father, wealthy man that he was, sent the police to search for her, ripped the town apart looking for his daughter, dredging the wetlands and searching the woods.
The people in town said she went back to hell. Either way, the man couldn't find hs daughter, the only thing he had left of his wife. They found no blood, no skin, no hair--just her jet and amethyst beads at the only intersection in town.
Eighty years later, the house stood, empty, the kind of house all the locals crossed to the other side of the street for, the kind of house where people would still talk about the strange tings that happened there whenever the weather got colder. The way the drums ould play at night, the odd words and chants people would hear--and when someone bought the house, no one believed it.
A business man retired from Wall Street and his teenage daughter moved in, making everyone in the town over eighty gasp, and some of the younger ones run from her screaming witch, for aside from the fact that her hair was longer, the girl looked exactly like the missing girl from so long ago.
The old math teacher was shaken the whole day when he had to introduce her to the class, telling himself it was a coincidence--after all, the drumming and odd noises had not started again. Still, everything that went wrong in the town was blamed on the girl, and no one would tell her about the house.
As time went by, she began to change, hr hair went from long into a short bob, her make-up became almost Egyptian influenced, and then she was seen wearing amethyst and jet beads.
Three weeks after she started wearing the necklace, the drumming started again. people didn't know what to think, until one night, seeing her exploring the woods, an old man shot at her. However, he was well over a hundred, and this time when the search parties came, they found her only under a few inches of soil, fingers still sticking out. they removed the man for murder, bu as they were cleaning it away, they found another skeleton, buried deeper, in a similar black dress, with an amethyst and jet necklace in her skeletal fingers, and as they took the man away he screamed.
"She came back! She whispered to me every night that she'd come back! A demon she was, just you wait! I had to kill her, I had to kill her again!"
In public, everyone chalked it up to just age and dementia, or maybe a complicated disease of the mind, but behind closed doors everyone whispered that she had come back for vengeance on the town, and would again.
