I recently stumbled across the factoid that one of our favorite quotes was actually derived from French: "La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froid."

Further investigation reveals that this is from "Les Liaisons dangereuses" (Pierre Ambroise Francois Choderios de LaClos, 1782).

And I think that pretty much says it all.
