At work today, I had some barbecue cooked by a native of my hometown, adapted from a recipe that began "If you want to feed 300 people", continued through "dig a 6 foot by 3 foot hole in the ground", on to "cut out 2 steer from the herd and quarter them", and beyond.

I mean, any recipe that uses cows as a unit of measurement... Mmmmm.
