Steve Prefontaine.

It wasn't just running to him. No, it was about pushing yourself to the limits. Sure, every dedicated runner thinks that -- I'm sure you could ask every runner at a State Track or Cross Country meet and you would find that same answer. However, it wasn't just about pushing yourself to the limits. It was to make yourself bleed. To make everyone else push harder. He wanted to entertain the crowd and make running an art.

He sure did.

I advise everyone to go out and rent "Without Limits", which is how I was introduced to Steve Prefontaine. This movie will give you the general grasp about this man.

I just want to say that when I saw this movie, I was almost in tears the entire time. I didn't know why -- I still don't.

I first saw Prefontaine on a rainy fall night in late October. It was the day before our regional meet for Cross Country, and my entire team sat in coach's house, eating the lasagna we had been fed. Casey had seen this movie before at Zach's house and insisted that this be our motivational movie for the meet. It had been tradition to watch a motivational movie the day before a Saturday meet.

This movie was different.

We were actually motivated.

After the movie was done, we all stood up and walked to the door. We didn't hafta talk. No one did. We just knew what we had to do -- run. We all wanted to run as far as we could go as fast as our feet would let us. None of us had proper running shoes, so many were going to run barefoot. It was downpouring, and it was a fall night, and hence, the conditions were a lil' rocky for running. It was also the night before regionals and we were all supposed to be resting.

Nope. It didn't matter.

His story just affected us that greatly.

And his story still affects me like that. I have said that I will only buy Nike running shoes from now on because he was the first "spokesperson" for the tiny shoe company called Nike. I have, since seeing the movie, thought that puking was only the first stage to success. Blisters were only stepping stones to greatness.

So, with this, I am happy to announce...

The second version of Stolen Bliss Graphics will be featuring Steve Prefontaine -- in my opinion, the greatest runner to grace this earth.

The Gift -- Version Two of Stolen Bliss Graphics

Coming soon.
