[Event 5B] The Counterfeit Man

Jan 24, 2010 23:39

[I just didn't want to let event 5b die.]

Around the school, he had strategically scattered posters, cards and cryptic messages carved into the sides of bookshelves. All were clues that led the path to secluded area in the middle of the school. Up through winding stone stairs and into an old, abandoned storage area in one of the highest points of the school (and and old part too), past a steel staircase rusted orange in the bitter damp air that clung to the edge of the whitewashed walls.

The door the cryptic messages lead you to is wooden. It may have been painted a certain colour once, but it is impossible to know exactly what that was. Layers of paint flake off the door. Water droplets, having seeped between the layers, push out bubbles in the clumsy paint job. The hinges are covered in orange and brown welts, seeming to have rusted the rotting wooden door in position. Push against it, but it's heavier than it seems.

There is no doorknob. Only a brass knocker that produced a hollow thump against the other metal.

The papers you have with you, whatever form you chose to take them in, say to knock three times quickly, three times slowly, and then three times quickly again. It seems ridiculous. Will you do it?

If you do, grasp the knocker and beat out the pattern. Nothing happens at first. The damp air feels heavy. Then, The door lurches backwards, hinges groaning like a wraith or a strong wind in a storm. The room is dark and the floor is cold, wet stone.

A boy emerges from the dark. His school blazer is blue, crisp, immaculate. Though the walls seemed to have gathered moss and cobwebs and dust, he is pristine. His hair bounces as he strides towards you. Eyes blank, voice placid and low, arms folded over a thin book (a ledger?) he speaks.

"What can I do for you?"
