The building was exquisite... I had to admit that. Marble flooring in some places... but it wasn't home. Home was the Hyperion; where we could help people. Here... yes, we could have all the resources we would ever need to help the hopeless, not to mention, eliminate our enemy, but... it wasn't what we were here for.
That, and I didn't like the fact of how hard they were trying to convince each of us to take this deal. It was... not right. Something was wrong; there was a bigger picture, but it wasn't clicking. There was a more important reason Wolfram and Hart wanted us there.
Probably so they could destroy us quicker.
I walked back into the lobby with Lilah, who was looking smug, even after death. Some things never changed...
Meanwhile, Wolfram and Hart hadn't seemed to change much from the Beast's rampage. The firm still buzzed with people at work, carrying briefcases back and forth. People still came in, looking for their lawyers, and under it all, I could still smell the demons that came in through... other means.
The others were coming into the lobby, with their guides, looking... sort of awed. I felt a small twinge, because I was about to make the executive decision- again. The others looked enraptured with how this could be for them.
And I had to say no.
For their good, and for mine. I could feel it- this place would destroy us, separately or all together. It might not be today or tomorrow... but this place was seeped in pain. I could feel it... and I shook my head slightly. Now I was starting to get like Dru...
