Room 513 of Internation Relations; Tuesday Evening [ 03/17 ].

Mar 17, 2009 21:26

Wearing green had been no problem at all for Turtle and Lucky Charms were practically one of her favorite cereals ever, so she definitely generally liked Saint Patrick's Day. But she wasn't really feeling very up to going out or celebrating or anything. Maybe if she actually was Irish ( Read more... )

Hinata's one concession to the holiday, once she'd realized one was occurring, was that she had on an undershirt of pale green. She's seen Turtle-san in class, but it seemed rather awkward and rude to try talking through a movie and so had remained silent.

Her excuse was that she was heading for the roof, for a bit of air, but in reality room 513 was her goal. She paused, and gently knocked on the doorframe. "Good evening, Turtle-san."

Turtle held up a finger, her mouth moving as she finished counting out the handful of bills, her mouth moving a little as the numbers tallied up. She didn't want to say anything, unless she lost her count, and then quickly scribbled down a number before looking up at Hinata with a grin.

"Hey, Hinata. What's up?"

"I was heading to the r-roof to take in the weather," and see if it had stopped raining cereal yet, "when I saw your door open and thought I might visit for at least a little. A-Assuming," Hinata added, with a nod to the work Turtle-san was doing, "you are n-not overly busy?"

Turtle shook her head, tucking the money into one of those bank deposit bags (which she had a ton of, just to practice money counting), and nudged her notebook aside to prove that Hinata could have her undivided attention if she wanted it.

"Not at all, Hinata. Come on in. Have a seat if you'd like. Not that I want to keep you from your walk. Ohmygosh, it's almost spring! That's the second best thing about March."

She stepped in, carefully sitting down on the edge of the bed, and shook her head slightly.

"It is e-early enough that my walk won't suffer a bit of an interruption," she assured her. "The weather a-already is getting quite a bit warmer, I agree. It'll be nice when everything is nicer. Fandom gets t-too cold for my tastes." Hinata already could guess what the first best thing of March was.

"Only the s-second best thing?" she asked, sounding innocent. (But not too innocent.)

"Ugh, it got so much colder in Wisconsin," Turtle said, shaking her head, "but summer is summer and so much better than winter no matter what. And the first best thing is my birthday!"

Hinata grinned a bit at that. "And you're already so e-excited," she said lightly. "It must be soon then, you mentioned t-twenty or so days the last time it came up. Summer i-is nice, it's much closer to the temperature's at home, though I admit I'm not s-so confident in taking part in all of the swimming that goes on during the season here. We don't s-swim, that much, at h-home."

Middle of the forest would cut down on the number of oceans they had to swim in, after all. Though they did have pools. That Hinata had been mostly too shy to go into.

"Twenty-fourth!" Turtle chirped brightly. "And I looooove swimming! We used to live right by Lake Michigan, which is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, you know! Although, well, I like swimming a lot, but I also like just sitting by a pool, you know, like I did a lot on the cruise. That was nice."

"Having the t-time to relax is always nice," she agreed, nodding. "You swim well, then, I w-would gather?"

"I wouldn't exactly say like a fish," Turtle admitted, "but at least like...well, like a turtle. Who are much better swimmers than they are walkers."

She laughed softly.

"I w-will take your word for it," Hinata said. "As I don't have m-much experience with turtles."

"I do," Turtle said with a nod. "Mostly just based on how many times I've turned into one."

"This island d-does have a sense of humour about names," Hinata admitted. "I confess to being glad that my n-name is not that of an animal. Turtle's swim p-passingly fair then?"

"Especially really big ones," Turtle said, and then she tilted her head a little.

"Does Hinata mean anything interesting or cool in Japanese?"

shyest_eyes March 18 2009, 02:30:46 UTC
"That d-depends on your definition of interesting?" Hinata said cautiously. "It means 'sunny place', which is n-not exciting, but..."

"Awwww!" Turtle couldn't help a small chuckle. "But it's not very fitting. I mean, you're sunny in that you're nice and everything, but I think of someone who's, like, really bright and bouncy with a name like that. Someone like...you know, Dinah."
