So, the other day I had to go into work to check on a patient. The other doctor whose patient I was checking on for her assured me that the alarm would not be on in the building because another business rents out the space on that night of the week, so I would be good to go in without setting off the alarm (I don't have an alarm code yet...still being processed since I've only worked there less than a month at this point). But, anyway, the alarm went off as I turned the key (and ever so slightly tasted bile in the back of my throat), and I had no code to deactivate it. I called the other vet and got her code to deactivate it...but it was too late. A few minutes later two squad cars and a police van arrived to validate my identity, and I felt sick thinking that my new boss (who didn't know I was going back to check on the patient) was being awakened at that very moment to soon find out that one M___ C___ professing to be a doctor that worked in the building had broken into his practice. So after they carded me and took down my information and reason for being there, they left...I thought. I went back into the building and finished writing up the patient's chart, locked up, and went to leave. Turns out one of the patrol cars had parked blocking in my escape vehicle and was still waiting for me when I came out. I'm surprised they didn't search my bag for control drugs or something. Boy did I feel shady. They'd really better give me an alarm code before I have to go back and check on any more patients.
