Stoatshead Hill really needed an indoor market. Luna trudged through the snow, shivering, and pulled her scarf up higher on her neck. The wind felt like it was biting into her skin, and the snow was coming down so quickly that it was downright difficult to see through. Warming charms were keeping her feet and hands warm, at least, but they could only do so much against weather this relentlessly cold after so long.

Luna had hoped the cold snap would pass, but she'd dashed that hope sometime around Tuesday when she'd stepped outside her house to find herself ankle-deep in snow. What she wished at the moment was that she'd thought to buy some groceries last week, even though there wasn't any way for her to know it would get quite this bad.

She shivered a bit more. The trouble was that the snow was actually quite beautiful to look at, as was the ice hanging from ledges and accumulating on tree branches. Of course, the snow piled up on roofs, could make them cave in. And the ice would make the branches so delicate that they would snap off under a heavy enough wind. But she supposed that anything that beautiful had to be dangerous in some way.

Luna browsed the stands, hoping that at least some good fruit had been imported, when she heard a 'pop' behind her, and turned to see Lavender. "Hello Lavender," she said, smiling at the other woman. "How are you faring in this weather?"

Hearing someone greet her, Lavender took a skittering step back, a little astonished. She steadied herself, managing not to slip on the ice and in grinned in embarrassment. "Oh, hello, Luna! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to Apparate so close to you."

She pulled her cloak tighter. "I'm managing. Barely. Just moved into a new house and the heating isn't brilliant, I'm afraid. What about you? Are there a lot of people coming into the hospital?"

Luna only smiled. "Well, how could you have known?"

"You've moved, really? That's wonderful. I hope your new house has a nice fireplace, at least, even if the heating is older. Lately I've been spending a lot of time in front of mine," she said. "I'm well, even if it's incredibly cold all the time. We've had to keep Pepper-up heavily stocked. More colds and fevers than I care to count, really. You've no idea how hard it is to keep such a big place adequately warm -- well, actually you do know." She laughed slightly at herself; Lavender was there too, even if they didn't work in the same departments.

Lavender shrugged, trying not to shiver from the biting cold. "I suppose I couldn't have."

She nodded. "Yes. In with Ron, actually. We finally took the plunge and moved in together." Lavender frowned. "Ah, yes. I remember what it was like this time last year - lots of people moving to town and all those colds going around. It wasn't this cold, though!" Lavender sighed. "Yes. It's a nightmare, isn't it? We're trying our best to keep the ward warm but it's not easy."

"That's lovely, really," she said, thinking how long it had been since she had first heard that Ron and Lavender had got together. It was wonderful to hear that they were happy and now sharing a life. "I remember it, too. In a way, it was just as hard. Even though it wasn't as cold, we didn't have the supplies and facilities we do now." Luna frowned. "I don't imagine it's easy, no. Infants are so much more delicate. Are you all able to keep them warm?"

"It's been great so far, apart from the cold," Lavender agreed. "Luckily we have a nice fireplace to try and keep us warm." They did plenty of cuddling in front of the fire, too, but Lavender thought it best not to mention it - it would probably be detrimental to Ron's manliness or something - fragile male egos and all that.

She nodded. "Yes, but it takes a lot of upkeep. Luckily we only have three babies in at the moment, but it's not good when we have check-ups. And three pregnant midwives as well. It's important to keep everyone warm."
