Daphne had been looking forward to this ever since Hannah had sent her an owl to tell her about it. Apart from Miss Skeeter she didn't really know any other women in town, and definitely none her own age. She had enjoyed meeting Hannah that night at the opening festivities at Hammerside, but since then they hadn't seen as much as the shadow of each other, so Daphne wasn't really sure that she could count Hannah as a person she knew.

Now that she was here, though, she was feeling uncertain about the entire idea and nearly overwhelmed by her own shyness. What if Miss Quirke didn't really appreciate the invitation being forwarded to Daphne? What if she was the only one who didn't know anybody? What if she was really intruding on an already tightly knit group? What if she had got the date wrong and was supposed to have been here yesterday? What if it was the right date but none of the others would like her? Maybe she should have just stayed at home?

She stood just inside the door fidgeting with the edge of her sleeve and biting her lip. As far as she could tell, nobody had noticed her being there yet, so perhaps it wasn't too late to change her mind and go home again. Except for the fact that she would probably get scolded by every single person she had told about this if she did. Besides, she could almost feel her father disapproving of the very idea from beyond the grave. Or from her pocket, where she had put the picture of him that she normally kept in a frame in her living room. Going home was just not an option.

Might as well go inside then. Daphne moved cautiously a few steps forward, wondering if she should introduce herself and to whom, or if she should wait for someone to come to her.

Orla saw the brunette enter, and was pleased that word had gotten around to bringing new people. She couldn't place her, but that was no reason to think she was lost and didn't intend to join the group.

She approached her, trying to make eye contact. When she did, she smiled, and extended a hand. "Hello. Welcome to the women's group. I'm Orla, and you are?"

Okay, so at least she had definitely gone to the right place at the right time. It wouldn't be likely for a town this size to have two such groups. This woman, whom Daphne assumed to be Miss Quirke, seemed nice enough. That, at least, was a good start.

"I'm Daphne Greengrass," she said, taking her hand. "Um... I've never tried anything like this before," she confessed.

"I doubt anyone here tonight will have." Orla said by way of reassurance. "But the important thing is that you're trying it now, so I'm glad you came." She gave her another smile, before gesturing to the refreshments table. "Biscuit? Punch?"

If it makes you feel better, I put some guidelines and expectations out for people to read. Its a bit dry, but I hope it might reassure you that I'll do everything I can to make this a safe place for you to share."

Daphne smiled a bit wider, feeling a little less shy. Maybe this had been a good idea after all. It helped knowing that she wasn't going to be the only one who didn't really know what was going to happen tonight, and there was a certain slightly superstitious sort of comfort to be drawn from the picture in her pocket, even if nobody else knew it was there.

"Thank you, I think I would like to have a look at those," Daphne said.

Now all she had to worry about was whether or not she actually did have anything marginally interesting to share. Was missing her father really reason enough to come to something such as this? Oh well. If it wasn't she didn't expect anybody was going to reprimand her for it.
